Laptop Resolution

I'm not sure if I'm asking for the impossible but, I'm searching for a way to increase the max resolution on my laptop. I absolutely love this machine except for the 1024 X 768 max resolution. So what I'm asking is there anyway I can increase this? I read that its close to impossible to upgrade a laptop graphics card, for abvious reasons(space). Is there anyway I can fool the machine into thinking that its capable of a higher resolution????

Anyways, if anyone has any suggestions or tweaks it would be very much appreciated!!!

Resolution support is dependant upon both the video card and the monitor display capabilities. As far as I know you can not "fool" the system into displaying a higher unsupported resolution.

Its possible but depends on your systems motherboard. It may support a higher-end vcard and if it does then get a vcard that can take full advantage of your mobo's graphics slot. What kind of laptop do you have? Did you check its website for the specs?

You could fool yourself into believing it's a higher resolution.

Is "vpr matrix" the video card or the laptop brand/model?

Sorry, it's a vpr matrix 180b5 and my graphics card is an ati Mobility Radeon 7500.

I was used to 1600x1200 on my last laptop - tiny font but lots of real estate. When I first got that Dell laptop 4 years ago, that was not a resolution that was available, but after a download of a driver one day, it became the default (suggested) resolution. Look for better/newer/different drivers before doing something drastic!

I just got a new laptop.

It took quite a lot of effort to find out what optional feature on an HP laptop would accomplish something similar to this resolution. I finally found a WUXGA wide-angle display that offered 1680x1050 max resolution (nw8240 - truly nice machine!).

Opening your laptop to change a card is not a good idea - I watched a hardware tech open a laptop once - about 50 screws - each a different length - and quite a puzzle to take apart and put back together. I wouldn't want to ever do it...

I'll have to try looking for a new driver.

I thought of buying a new machine, but other than the resolution, this thing has everthing I need!! I just can't make myself dish out the money to get a new one, although it is very tempting with the new big beautiful machines they have out there today. Plus I only paid $700.00 for this thing.

Looks like maximum resolution is 1024 x 768 but if you call them they will make you upgrade the vard if its possible so that would at least let you know of the posibility for an upgrade.

Get a 19 or 21 inch flat-panel display and make it the second monitor - then forget about the problems with the main panel!

I thought about that too but for that price you could invest into a higher performing laptop.

Actually I use my plasma TV as my second display. It s work great except for when the wife wants to what the Lifetime channel!!!!

Just TiVo it for her and have her watch it when your done.

Then you can save money by not even getting Tivo and spend that money on a better vcard but still use the big screen.

Installing XP on a machine with a Screen thats ID's Screen as Plug and Play, but on the Next Startup if the Monitor can't accept >60HZ refresh you screwed cause safe mode wont allow you to change that. You'd have to Swap Screens, Reset - Then put back Original.

Code for a App that you cant Run off a floppy by pressing CTRL+ESC, Press UP Arrow twice, type a:\refresh.exe in the run box, then enter to solve the problem would be great.
