How about we have FAQs for the main forums?

I've seen a lot of questions asked which are answered in other threads, in many cases especially in the C++ forums about 20 threads on the same subject.

People ask questions because they don't feel like searching, so the same question gets asked quite a few times.

I'm sure people that search and still can't find it, just aren't searching for the right thing, so they ask the question.

But do you think people will actually read it?

I mean, Vb-World.net is FAQ. And it's forums are both FAQs and opinions, but people don't like to read everything. You just have to search for what you want, and you will most likely find it. Why do you think I barely ever ask questions? (Hmmm...oops, I just asked a few questions in this thread)

But me, I enjoy reading, and I learn a lot from it .

Yeah. I meant FAQ as in huge page with small answers to lots of questions to point people in the right direction.

That way you can just use Ctrl-F to find a word on the page.

Hitting Ctrl+F may be to much work for some people, they may strain some fingers on the way .

And the page would be endless. Look at all the tips on Vb-World, and think about adding them all to 1 page. That would take forever (on a Modem) to load.

And so much work it would be. Would you put it on your page, search through everything and put it on your own page (http://www.parksie.net) ?

I think that would be a great idea, sorry if i have asked diplicate questions, but sometimes the search feature doesn't work, and sometimes it is hard to find what you need that way. I am sure that a lot of people would benifit from a c++ faq, especially because good c++ sites on the internet are few and far between.

hmmm, heard this one before. I think if it was one FAQ per forum then the pages would become managable and searchable. If people can't be bothered with them then it's their problem when no-one can be bothered replying to the same question for the upteenth time.

I think Paul is right. We need to have a FAQ for each form. I am getting sick and tried of seeing the same questions being asked and answered. I got so upset when I saw a few days ago the same question was asked and answered 3 times in the C++ form and all three of them were on the first page of the form. I think parksie saw it too which is why he made this thread. I dont know why people have such a hard time searching the forms or reading previous threads. We really need to do something.

Since that seems like it would take up alot of John and Co.'s time to make the content for each FAQ, im willing to put in time for the ASM FAQ, im still a begginer, but i learn new stuff almost every day, so i would have some info to contribute.

I have seen FAQ in many contexts, but I have never seen one that helped more than searching the VB forums.

There does not seem to be any way to index or organize FAQ. You still have to search the FAQ. Why not search the VB forums? The VB search engine seems pretty good, and the data is divided into a lot of major categories.

The problem we are complaining about is people not searching the forms. Plus I dont think we really need to make big FAQ. Just cover things that get asked a lot. Like in the C++ form

How do I start learning about C++?
Where are some good tutorials?
What are some good C++ websites?
What is better to start with C, C++, API, MFC?
etc.

These questions get asked at least once a week.

Just wondering, what does John think of this?

And another suggestion, what if it was a whole nother page seperate from the forums, just with a link in the C++ or Assembly forum to the page?
