site speed / down
I'm again looking into finding out what the cause of the site slow downs. I know we are offloading things from the servers to give more processor power to this forum. When I learn something, I'll let you know.

Brad!
The site is still very slow, have we found the cause?

Five attempts to access vforums only to get the connection refused. Then about a ten minute wait to post a thread reply.

The status of the site seems to be following a sine curve.

Didn't actually download them, just looked at the response. So no real bandwidth.

Is there a problem with reps and searching. Cause whenever i click on "Search This Forum", "Forum Tools", or I try to give someone some rep points it seems like the page just reloads instead of openning up the proper window. It might just be me but i thought i'd ask.
BTW I'm using Fx 1.0.6

Re: site speed / down
It is very strange at the moment for me, and has been all day. Very often I get the "timeout" or "connection refused" error in the middle of a session, and then on the next refresh it goes back to normal. I should mention that when it works it is very fast, so it is probably a load issue.

I've lost count of the number of "pages could not be displayed" errors I've gotten today. But I have lost 5 posts.... and the one I did get through, I had to submit it 6 times before it took.
Maybe it's time to take a vacation from VBF for a week or two....

the more loyal members will surely stay
but I'm afraid the n00bs will figure that they might as well go to another forum
a few days ago plenderj was banned because of a link that he had in his signature. It was said that the link was against the rules because the MS forum in the link competes with vbforums....
seriously, you might lose two or three members if a guy has a link to a competing website, but you'll surely lose much more than that if you don't get to fix your server issues

Still getting timeouts. I get it mostly when I try to reply to a thread, which I am about to do now.
Edit: Just got the error, lol.

Re: site speed / down
I'm aware and have been trudging through time outs as well. The tech guys are on it (there is a network issue being resolved I'm told). I've also gotten "highest up's" involved so they know there are issues as well.
As an FYI - The system administrators have been working to offload and reshuffle server loads for this forum. This includes moving some of the database processes to a separate machine and more. This will be an ongoing processes for a while.

I'm not too sure about that.... I'm almost to the point of giving up on VBF.... at least for awhile. The last three days have been torturous trying to get the site to load. It's become so painfull to watch, I can't do it any more. I'm thinking about opening up an online gambling site called will-vbf-load-gambling.com I'm giving 11 to 4 odds on it not loading at any given time. Tell your friends and bring your CC. I'll be lucky if this reply will post on the first shot.
Hey Brad, have you guys thought about a good old-fasioned cold reboot? I know it sounds silly and trite, but we had problems with our network here too, then we brought everything offline to move officies. Ever since it all came back up online, things have been just .

Re: site speed / down
IS THIS EVER GOING TO BE FIXED SOMEHOW OR IS IT AN "ISSUE FOREVER" ???
What is going on, why can't you figure it out finally - it's being almost a full year since this nonsense started. Why do I have to click like 37 times to get to page ??? Or maybe nobody bothers to fix it at all?

Re: site speed / down
I was begining to think I was the only one with this problem still, so I gave up reporting. One trend I have noticed is that it is verry sluggish when I am at work. At home (usualy after 7pmCentral -6GMT) it's fine. That's why I thought it was just me. Doesn't look like that's the case. Although the last 4 minutes, it's been speedy..... ????

Re: site speed / down
I was in the same boat as TG here. I thought it was just me, but this site has been slow as molases on a cold cold winters day, for a couple of days now.
HAHAHA (although it's a sad funny) I got this while trying to post this.

I must say that this is really promissing. I am nearly up to 3pages/sec if I try on my machine now. Seems like this did the trick. But only time will show though

Re: site speed / down
Yeah, it seems to be OK when people in the US head home and aren't on the servers so much..... but during the day, during the week..... argh...
It could be just me, but it seems like I spend most of the time waiting for the VBWire & the ads to show up. Once they pop into place, the rest of the page seems to load fairly quickly.

Re: site speed / down
Maybe it is not actualy VBF that is slow. Maybe it is just the servers the Ads are on that is the bottle neck? If the Ads are shared with many other web pages, and they have a lot of users, they might slow down this page too. Unless this server is pipelined though. Think you still have to enable pipelining in Fx, because it is not on by default. But that is an other story.

Re: site speed / down
So it seems that you are implying:
If a server that an add is on is down, then VBForums just might go down, even though the server vbforums is on is up?

Re: site speed / down
No, but that it will slow down page rendering...the missing e-mails and the page going down is an other story.
