Da Vinci Code - Passion of christ...

Hi,

I read Da Vinci Code recently, and its one hell of a book (easy to read, nice action and suspense).

However, you really need an open mind to read it as it rubs christianity and catholics (pope) completely the wrong way in places.

I was reminded of this via the passion of christ thread, which was an ok film, neat effects, but didn't do anything for me as such. My wife mentioned that the film shows the anguish of the mother of Jesus as a new perspective, but apart from that... well...

Anyone else read the Da Vinci code? What did you think?

Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code" is not bad.

The thing you have to remember is that this book and the Bible, are both fiction. The interesting part for me was the insight into "The Last Supper" painting by Da Vinci. Find a picture of it and you actually do realise that it isn't the big guy and 12 apostles, but 11 apostles and Mary Magdalene. Its obvious really, not sure why I didn't see it before.

The plot was written so even an American can understand it The puzzles could be solved by my dog.

DB is not a great author but it passes a rainy afternoon.

I READ about it!!! a couple of months back!!!... yeah well, although I am a christian I still allow people their own views on it so nothing much for me here. ..

I LOVED the book! (which reminded me. I forgot to buy a copY... the other day GRRRR)

Aside from the suspense and action and everything about cryptology and puzzles, I really like the fact that it evolves a lot on some of the greatest works of art and some pretty famous painters! Definitely a book for me.

I doubt my sisters would want to read that though because of some implications on religion. LOL

oh i dunno, i had a friend that I recommended "the da vinci code" of DB, and so she loved it and next bought/read the rest of his novels.. but she got pretty tired after a few she says...

I'd rather read the installation guide of a memory stick. Equally dull and pointless. Come to think of it, much shorter though. So that's a definite plus.

hehe..I havn't read a anything else then programming and game/graphics books the last 10 years. I have to agree with you... When mad people with weird hair writes about their dreams and fantasies in a big book, it gives me the creap. Can't see the point in reading stuff that isn't true...

I enjoyed the book, though, whatever the truth of his claims may be. The opening bit about ' . . the historical events actually happened ...' (paraphrased) made me laugh a little, though. I wonder how he knows about Jesus' sex life . . .

Anyway - yea, I read them both, but it was more than a week or so ago so I don't remember either one.

Forget about Brown and go read the book he stole all his ideas from - "Foucault’s Pendulum" by Umberto Eco

The idea, concepts, and all that of the book were amazing.
However the author could have done more with the story itself.

The question is where is the 12th apostle? Many of the experts believe that the character on J's right IS the 12th apostle and not Mary Magdalene as the 12th apostle was rumoured to be homosexual, so Da Vinci painted him in a feminine context
