    Winsock control..

    I think i posted this a while back..but i cant find it/cant remember:

I was wondering if theres anything faster than winsock to send/recieve data? I am not connecting with a client, so most winsock classes do not work. Thankyou

Is this program running on your computer?

It sounds like the program must be listening on a port/IP - so that would limit you to the Winsock option. Unless you know of another way that the program is listening for input.

    Small world!

    Re: Winsock control..

My program is sending a query to a program made by someone else for example:

I send the text "Users" to the ip and port of that computer where the remote winsock is listening

It returns my query with "234 Users"

Id like a faster method, as ive heard winsock isnt too good

Sorry if im not making sense..it makes sense in my mind before i type it

First off - there is nothing wrong with Winsock. I have build quite a few Winsock applications and have never had a problem!

Unless the program will answer your query another way - sounds to me like you are stuck using Winsock to send and receive.

Where did you hear winsock wasnt too good?

Basicly the only other option is to use directplay, which is wrapped around winsock. Are you finding winsock slow or somthing? If so I think you may be mistaken, it will be the reponce time of the program you are sending too

Yes i heard it was slow, i was hoping for some apis or something so i wouldnt have to wrap it..i guess ill just stick with it.

Any suggestions for speeding up, or are there any?
