Free FTP Server
I need to upload 1 GB of data which I plan to recover later.
The Gmail as harddrive extension is not working on my PC.
Does anyone know any ftp servers which can let me do this?

Re: Free FTP Server
You can email 1GB at www.yousendit.com
just send it to yourself. you will get a link that is active for about a week.
they might limit the number of downloads, i haven't really tested it.

Re: Free FTP Server
So, you'd use your own hard drive to host a file for yourself?

Re: Free FTP Server
With WarFtp, yes you would - it will probably be faster too. WarFtp is a powerful server - they use it at work, it handle about 100 logins per day.

Re: Free FTP Server
Naah, I cant go for warFTP. The trouble is the data is lying on my hard-disk, which will get formatted. So I don't want to turn my PC into a ftp server. I need space somewhere out there which I can recover in a month's time. So faryousendit.com does the needful.

Re: Free FTP Server
Even on a really fast connection it is going to take forever to upload a gigabyte.....burning to a DVD or two CD's would be a much more logical choice, plus you then do not risk losing the data through some unknown complication with a file that large being uploaded to someone elses server.

Re: Free FTP Server
yeah....when you upload too big files, the servers try to do some kind of compression.

Re: Free FTP Server
Stupid security rules in my office. Allow me to have a network connection, but no cd-drives.
