    USB DVD Writer problem

Ok, my roommate bought a USB DVD writer and i'm having trouble getting it to work. It's an NEC ND-3520a dvd writer, but i don't know what kind of case it is in. The thing is supposed to be plug and play and came with no Discs, just a firewire cable, usb cable, and power cable.

When i insert the usb and turn the thing on, it reads as "USB Mass Storage Device". In the Device manager it says the device fails to start. Anyone know how to solve this one, i can't figure it out or find it anywhere.

Some deep insight for you guys:

Why do they put brail on drive-up ATMs?

Did you check NEC's website for a driver?

    Re: USB DVD Writer problem

NEC doesn't list drivers on the site and i've been searching for about 3 days for drivers online. No one has any and every site i visit doesn't say anything about the drivers but they do talk about the firmware, but i really don't think that that is the prob. People also talk about the housing, but i don't really know if that is it. I mean it could be that he bout a total pos. Anyway incase someone asks, i'm running XP SP2 with all current updates. Like i said this pos is supposed to be complete plug n play and i can't find any drivers for it

Did you try Windows Update when it's plugged in? Try drivers.com, also

    Re: USB DVD Writer problem

From what I could find, it seems more like it's a problem with the drive enclosure than the drive. Try and find something that identifies the enclosure for the drive and look for drivers for that. I suspect you can also take the drive out of it's bay and install it as a regular drive, if you can, try that and make sure the drive isn't faulty.

This seems like a common problem when I searched, but no solutions.
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)
