I think its your duty to report this to Yahoo, or just sue them for racial discrimination.

Re: Unbelievable Racisim!
I think you folks are looking into his too much. Images are usually captioned and placed into a 'pool' of images that news orginizations use. Reuters, Associated Press, etc.
You have different people writing these captions. Its not like it is 1 person taking photos and given them these comments.

Yahoo has the option of screening these images and if its posted on their site as such, it reflects badly on them.

Re: Unbelievable Racisim!
You guys are megaanal. Thousands of captioned pics hit their database every day. The pictures are then captioned and tagged for searching. There are probably quite a few different people tagging and captioning these. I doubt the three of these were tagged by the same person

Oh come on. Going through the number of stories and images a day, would you catch something like that? It is one thing to screen something and say, 'Oh this might be racist', but to expect them to compare it with god knows how much other stuff to see if its racist in context with the other stuff is asinine.

Easy there bud, I'm just saying that since it IS on their site, they do need to accept resposiblilty for the content, accidental or otherwise. I'm sure it was probably somethig that just happened to slip in. You can't deny that is seems racist, and if it seems that way, you can bet that there are others out there that are taking it that way. My coment about prosecuting for racial discrimination was meant to be funny.

Fair enough.
But really there is nothing here to suggest racism. 3 images/captions from 2 different people does not create any kind of pattern to form an opinion on.
There really is nothing for Yahoo to accept responsiblity for. This whole image fiasco, which have been going all over the internet, is just someone trying to stir up trouble. People are taking it as racist because they have been told it is by people not logically thinking it through. You guys should know better not to just blindly accept an explanation you got from some anonymous person on the internet.
It is sorta like Jesse Jackson and company saying racism caused the New Orleans fiasco. What? There are white people in New Orleans too ya know Jesse! And people are blindly accepting that Bush is at fault for not doing this or that because Jesse want's to class New Orleans as a black city. If anything Jesse Jackson showing concern for blacks and not any other races screams more of racism that these 3 images.

Since when are people logical? If its perceved to be then it is. A little wink to the girl in the next cubical could get you fired these days becuase of what things are perceved to be, not what they really are. Perception is reality. Those photos and captions were perceved to be racists, so they are. Sad, but true. That you can't deny...

I can deny it. It is someone elses perception. And I refuse to accept someone elses perception as reality. Perception is reality only to that person. Forcing others to accept that persons perception as fact and making them take responsibility for it is BS.

If someone lost their job for that then they need to Lawyer up. Winking at a person regardless of the motive behind it is not sexual harassment and does not even fall near legally being considered harassment. If he winked at her and then grabbed her arse and asked her if she wanted a promotion, that would be sexual harasment. What does this have to do with Racisim any way If this happend in San Diego then it would be Mexicans or whatever the hell it is PC to call them now or in Seattle it would be Asians or in West Virginia it would be white people.
Too many people are too quick to pull out the race card and too many other people are too quick to jump on the train after that card has been pulled. I think there must be some secret clan that do nothing but search for something that may or may not be racist then decide to make an issue out of it any way for no reason other than to piess people like me off. Mabe instead of pointing out the bags they were carrying someone should have captions it with something important like "Holy sheit! there is water up to those peoples necks in the middle of New Orleans" I think that is probably more important than some white chick and her boyfriend carrying a bag of stolen wonder bread.

Re: Unbelievable Racisim!
MasterBlaster, I think you missed the point of the whole post. What happened to those involved in Katrina was horrible, but that wasn't really the point of the post. agmorgan I'm sure meant it to be a humorus attempt to draw connections between a few picture to lead you to think that Yahoo was racist (agmorgan, correct me if I'm wrong). I'm sure its just a bad coincidence. People will draw their own conclusions from it, some will think racism, some will find it funny, and others just stupid all together.

Your right, winking probably isn't a fire-able offence. I was merely trying to point out that what one person may concider harmless, another might see as harrassment. That same thought goes toward this. What someone might think is stupid, one might see something very offensive. Racism and Sexual Harrasment, as far as the law is concerned, tends to sway more toward the accuser. They are also those issues that the media eats up (Rodney King, OJ Simpson, Bill and Monica...The list goes on) This is just social commentary and totaly unrelated to what the hurricane victims are going through. Or is it? As Cander pointed out, Our Dear Rev. Jesse Jackson has already declared what has happened to be a racist event (Please hear the sarcasm in what I just said.) I'm not agreeing with anyone, just pointing out the reality of the situation as unfortunate as it may be.

No point was missed, I am an endless resivior of useless information, spewing nonsense and there are only 2 active threads going on here. <-Don't sue me for harassment for winking at you. I'm only attracted to english princesses with colon tattoos of over the hill country music stars and hire bad limo drivers. (don't ask)
Not unlike myself, Jesse Jackson, is also a endless resivior of useless information, spewing nonsense. Only for some reason people listen to him because Martin Luther King Junior let him carry his suitcases a couple times in the 1960's.

Lock it? no way! Why ruin a bad thing. On another side note regarding the level of importance that should be placed on the quality of Yahoo News reporting. I found this article quite interesting

Re: Unbelievable Racisim!
I just want to comment on anyone who said that it is impossible for them to screen everything. That is complete BS.
First of all, there isn't that much news in the entire world to make it to much to screen.
Secondly, even if it is a lot, it is their reponsibility to hire enough people to screen it.
Third, CNN shows news all the time, and you don't see them airing every tape that someone gives them before checking it.
If it was some kind of blog or something then ok, but this is organised news. Stuff like that should not happen. I'm not saying that anyone should sue anyone, but they (yahoo) could at least make some effort to remove it and make sure that things like that dont happen.

Re: Unbelievable Racisim!
Well, it could be racism, or it could be a poor sample, as Cander was pointing out. I don't think this is entirely out of line, but it should be backed up or refuted by taking a larger sample. If there are that many images....check them out.
