MCE's are only run for current supported MS prodcuts I believe. I have 7 years experience in VB Classic but it won't get me anywhere 
Don't forget you would usually (if you are considering getting a new job) take some sort of skills test at the job interview, which is where you'd prove your worth anyway

Thats correct and he could take a shot at the VB.NET exame.

My experience with those is that many of them are logic based rather than a specific test of a specific skill, and do not mean squat at any company other than the one that you are interviewing for. The Microsoft exams, on the other hand, are pretty much accepted industry wide.
