Firefox bookmarks
I recently had to format my hard disk and reinstall Win98. I don't know how to recover my Firefox bookmarks: there's a folder with the old contents of the hd but I don't know exactly where the bookmarks are stored.

Re: Firefox bookmarks
They should be here:
c:/Documents And Settings/YourName/Application Data/Mozilla/firefox/Profiles/default.#*$!/bookmarks.html
BTW if you are in Linux then it is a bit more complicated. If you are, tell me and I will try to guid you again.
Hope that helps.

Thanks but I think this applies to XP. I'm using 98.

Re: Firefox bookmarks
Try to do a search for "bookmarks.html" on your hard drive then. And see if that finds it. I guess they havn't changed the name.

It has found them but they are the default bookmarks. Maybe I erased my own bookmarks inadvertently. Still I can copy them from my home XP computer as they are more or less the same.

Re: Firefox bookmarks
I export mine from time to time in case something happens to FX.

I am pretty sure the name hasn't changed at all on Windows, so if a search didn't find them, then I think they might be lost.. ...I have actualy been thinking about making an extension that will upload the files to a server, and then you can download them again to an other computer if you need them on an other computer. That would also work as a safety backup. But I have never had the time to do it...

I dumped the entire hd to a networked backup hd prior to formatting and thereafter recovered it. It's gone, yes, but what that means is I was unaware it was in some directory I deleted because I thought it was irrelevant.

Re: Firefox bookmarks
At any rate, as I've mentioned somewhere above, I had the same bookmarks at the home computer so I've got them back now.

Re: Firefox bookmarks
I did the same thing a few months ago, and lost mine. I think you have to export them in order to save them. You can import them from IE, but, I quit using it, and lost all the good ones from Fx.

I also found the "bookmarks.htm" file in
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile
and copied my backup file to both folders. Then you've got to logout from windows and back in again.
