Resolved [RESOLVED] Difference between definitions and signatures?

I'm wondering what is the difference between definition and signature files for anti-virus and anti-spyware programs?

Norton AntiVirus uses definitions while some anti-spyware programs use signatures. Can anybody tell me the difference?

There is basically no difference nor do those two have any special definitions which make the 'signature' or 'definition' files. They are just common names for files holding info on viruses or spyware.

I have seen the term 'Refference file' being used too.
