[RESOLVED] Removing autoplay in XP
This is not actually a VB question but I was programming in VB when I encountered this problem.
How do I set XP to ignore autoplay devices like CDROMs and Flash Drives? When I changed the properties settings to take no action for all file types, XP still opens an Explorer showing its contents.
Please help! Thanx.

There's a setting in the registry...don't remember where or what...
*does search*
nope, can't find it... do a few searches including "autoplay" at msdn.microsoft.com

Re: Removing autoplay in XP
Download "Powertoys for XP" which allows you to change the settings of autoplay devices.

TweakUI - as long as you don't have a 64 bit processor, this is the link

Re: Removing autoplay in XP
You should not need TweakUI, XP has the auto play settings in the properties menu of the drive. Right click on the drive you want to disable autoplay on and select properties. Click on the autoplay tab then choose what format you want to change ( music files, etc) and change the selection to "Take no action" and that should make XP ignore the next time you load that type of media.

Re: Removing autoplay in XP
Alternatively, you can hold down the shift button when you insert a CD. This will stop the auto-play function, although I agree that is not perhaps the best solution.

I already did that but XP still opens an explorer showing its contents.

Re: Removing autoplay in XP
I think it's still going to open explorer whenever you open a drive. Autoplay just prevents the program from executing automatically. See if there is a drive in your filetypes. You may be able to alter the OPEN command.

Re: Removing autoplay in XP
I have found it! Actually, about 5 months ago!
Google for AutoPlay Repair, download it, install it, configure it, and that's it!
