Re: Google's own messenger...
The question is, how do I bloody well add a new contact via Jabber on Adium... and who wants to be that contact?

Re: Google's own messenger...
Yeah, I read about it. Hehe...it looks like their home page...slim...kind of like it...but it is just for Windows at the moment though.
Do anyone think they will start to bomb people with ads after they have managed to get everyone to use all their products? Or is this a new "life style"?

Google's intentions are to make the net a better place for everyone, and make money second.
So yeah.. I dunno what you make of that dodgy sounding statement. :\

Re: Google's own messenger...
googles master plan is world domination... you just wait and see..
although they do seem like a more friendly bunch than microsoft, so maybe it would be better they rule the world instead of MS anyway...
just wait until googleOS 1.0beta comes out for free and is better than windows/linux

Re: Google's own messenger...
Google has become a cult phenomenom (with myself as a leading member ). I did a report on them a while back and learned a lot about their evil side (even though their motto is "Don't Be Evil"). Especially with Gmail there are some really big privacy violations (even though most free email providers have similar ones).
The worst thing about google in general is the fact that that they are trying to collect every piece of info they can, with every service they provide. Most people trust them more than any other online service they use. The problem arrises in the fact that it is a goldmine for the government to subpena (sp?) information. Google has not choice, but to hand it over. It brings us back to the whole idea of big brother.
The police need a warrant to search your house because if they didn't there would be many many times when they had bad information and falsely accused people of things just on a hunch and in the process, invade their privacy. The same thing can now happen through google without the warrant.
... And through all that, I still love google.

Re: Google's own messenger...
well that would all come back to the fact that doing shady things on the internet is simply not a good idea... whether its google that has to give over info if needed, or your ISP (as in the case with many of the RIAA law suits), if you are connected to the internet, SOMEONE knows exactly where you have been...

I like the idea, but not as functional as MSN + MSG, A Google OS would be funny, a free one at that.
We should petition it

Re: Google's own messenger...
they don't own it, but they are going to try to take down google a notch or 2 with the MSN search.. they admitted they were WAY behind google.. but if there is one thing MS is good at, its taking someones good ideas and making them better.. so we will see...
from a web browser standpoint though, yes they do currently own the web.

Re: Google's own messenger...
But there is many more sides of the web then just the browser. I have NO numbers on this so I am just guessing, but IIS vs Apache? I would think there is more sites all togheter running Apache, and mail account. Well I guess hotmail has the most accounts, but they are not even near the same ratio as with Windows machine vs Linux/Mac/and so on. And the same goes with IE and so on too.
So I am not sure if I will say they own the web. They do lead enormeously on the browser front, and there is a long was still to kick them off that top. Not even sure if it will happen. But we can always hope. That will at least mean that they need to improve their products, something that can only benefit us, the users.

They also have several well known operating system developers and many websites speculate they're working on their own OS.
I hope they are. That would be really friggin cool but I have many doubts... I think it's just speculation
