Not a bad selection Dennis. I like the Dixie Chicks more for thier looks than their music. I noticed that there wasn't any Springsteen on that list. Still pretty cool.

You are forgiven for not knowing that much about Springsteen.
Let me tell you a few things why Bruce Springsteen is so cool:
In the mid 1980's he wrote a song called "Born in the USA". The song addressed many social problems faced by Vietnam Veterans upon their return to the States. It was a "liberal" song that the conservative Ronald Reagan decided to use for his 1984 re-election campaign. Reagan, who was old and very forgetful at the time, thought the song was something like "Proud to be an American" but it wasn't. This song stood for everything that Reagan wasn't.
In the early 90's Springsteen did a song on the soundtrack for Philadelphia. The song was called "Streets of Philadelphia". At the time AIDS was still considered a "homosexual" and a "drug user" diease. The movie was great and so was the song.
I like his older stuff. Songs like "Rosilita" and "Thunder Road" are really awesome. My friend and I are competing to see how many bootlegs we can download off of Napster. The best one I have is an acoustic version of "Growing Up". (Hint: download it off of Napster, I gaurntee you'll like it.) The regular version of "Growing Up" was in "Big Daddy" with Adam Sandler.
The best part of Springsteen is that his music reflects the problems of the working guy. The song "Johnny 99" is about an auto working in Mahwah, NJ (8 miles from where I live) that loses his job because Ford desides to move the plant to Mexico. He wrote another song about the recent tragedy that took place in New York when the four white police officers shot 41 times and killed an unarmed African Immigrant. New York police protested, again not listening to the song.
He's been compared to Dylan, but I like his music more. I think he writes better love songs (Tunnel of Love, Brilliant Disguise, Sandy, etc.) He's from New Jersey so you know he's not a bad guy either.
