For those in High School & Have computer classes
Don't you feel like it's pretty sad when you know more than the computer teacher.... or get this. 2 IT's have to come in for computer problems at the school.
She stereotypes that the newer the PC the better it is. We have several P4 Dells at 2.8 and she thinks that's worse than our newer Pentinum Celron's...
Anybody have a similar situation or have had that?
On another note
Our school is getting something called ren-web it is a completely computerized/internet application... I'm so not going to get discipline reports sent to my parents, or better yet a failing grade ... Seriously I haven't seen it yet. Doubt that I would/could crack it. I'm a bright student anyways.
Also my Computer teacher has never heard of Visual Basic... LOL

Re: For those in High School & Have computer classes
Print out a few documents describing the difference, and then ask how they got that opinion? The teacher graduated from college, and may not know much about a computer, but it isn't that hard to get information today. Just show it to him/her!
Glad I'm out of school

Re: For those in High School & Have computer classes
Yeah I have to watch myself... on the microsoft office suite
it is...
Cut - Get rid of it
Copy - Make a copy
Paste - Paste TO the clipboard
I corrected her saying cut temporarily removes the selection and puts it into the memory, and paste insertes something from a cut or from the memory of the selected text.
That and I hate people that get memory & drive space confused! AHHH
I try to explain the diff but I know they still won't get it.

Re: For those in High School & Have computer classes
Write a nice technical report on MS headed paper (the shinier the better) about the faults in Celeron CPU's. Then sneak into the IT lab after hours (all schools are easy to break in to, its the law) and remove / add a few tracks to the CPU's of all the new machines, (or better yet put some thermal paste on the pin-side ). Post the report to the head of IT and wait for your shiny new Itaniums to arrive
I don't live here any more.

I think all of the AP ComSci classes are like that. Ours was a little different. Only 10 people signed up. Since that wasn't enough to justify the class (classes like that must have a min of 30 people sign up) they combined us with 20 kids from Proggie II. So we sat in the front, got our assignments, a 5-10 minute lecture on that day's topic, then left to our own devices, while the Priggie II kids had their hands held with BASIC. - We were using Pascal at the time. About 30 minutes after that, we would be done and go off on our own. As long as everything got done, the teacher didn't care.

Re: For those in High School & Have computer classes
My school isn't too bad. Out high school has a room that houses the district tech staff members who teach all the teachers about computers and fix any computers in the district that are messed up, so there are a few bright people.
I would still say I know more than them in all but maybe a couple areas (they tend to be good with specific applicaitons: Photoshop, etc). I still think I know more than them about computers in general though.
We have 1 independent study computer class that only has 2 students each period and the teacher only comes to see you once a week (if that). He is the head of district tech though. He knows what he is talking about kind of well, but the good thing is the students pick most of their projects and can do whatever they feel like.
Other than that, the most advanced computer class we have is InfoTech (Information Technology). The first day of class we took out final (so we could all see how much there was to learn) and I aced it. We took it out loud and anyone who knew an answer could say it. By the end of it, the teacher would just wait to see if no one else knew then would call on me, because he knew I would know the answer. In that class, the most advanced learned about was HTML and how to take apart a computer.
EDIT: We also have 3 classes of electronices (basic, intermediate, advanced). This class really helped me understand binary and the real workings of computers better.
The other funny thing is that the 1 person in the school who probably knows the most about computers is the Pre-Calc teacher. He knows VB and was part of the reason I decided to learn it. He wrote a program that generates tests for him. I have been asking him to give me the source code for so long now, but he thinks I will use it to cheat some how even though I am out of that class.

hehehe thats funny
sadly the language for that AP class is java now. I say sadly because I think it's more important to teach the basics of programming with c/c++

I agree with you. My CompSci I class up at UNI is all about Java... I don't want Java. I want something with code.. I'm a coder... I want to code... not "instantiate an object"... grr...
If and when I pass this with flying colors, CompSci II sounds fun... hopefully more the C/C++ line... CSIII is supposed to be ADO...

The basics of c/c++ may seem easy to you or I, but that is because we already know the basics of programming. Using C++ as the first ever programming language is not a good idea at all because it is far too difficult. This is why PASCAL is taught the world over for a first programming language. Of all the 3GL languages it is the most simple and is a good stepping stone to C, Java, VB etc...

Re: For those in High School & Have computer classes
Yeah, that's the usual path. C++ is far too difficult to be taught as the initial programming language

You prefer non-OOP languages?
