Eh, worth upgrading to XP Pro?
Right now I'm currently on Windows XP Home. I am going to be doing some Web applications and was wondering if it was seriously worth the money to upgrade to XP Pro? I mean, are there other things that I'll eventually run into while programming other than IIS that I will need to have XP Pro for?
Thanks,
James

Re: Eh, worth upgrading to XP Pro?
Just my opinion, I run all aspects of Visual Studio including Asp development on XP Home with no problem at all. With me it's more an issue of being stubborn, I really have a hard time forking even more money over to Microsoft in order to get something that should have been included in XP Home anyway when XP Home can run it with some slight mods.
I am by no means the biggest computer guru in the world, but my home wireless network is supported perfectly under Home and so far the only thing that XP Home would not support without mods is the Asp Development portion of Visual Studio. I have a feeling many may disagree though.

Re: Eh, worth upgrading to XP Pro?
I've never heard of anyone that got IIS running on Home, even with a W2K disc.
I think you need IIS to test your code, and it has to be configured with .ASP.
I don't see that happening with a hack, nor with any Linux version.
Plain and simple, it'd cost you more than the $100 difference to deal with the issues to debug your code. Pony Up. Sell your old CD for Home. Plenty of people will be looking as their bootleg systems get disabled thanks to the new processes at MS.

If you are in college, you can get XP Pro for free in the computer lab

dglienna,
I am living proof that IIs will run flawlessly on XP Home with the mod. All aspects of Visual Studio work as they should and I have never encountered any problems.

Do you have a document showing how you've done it? I wouldn't mind having it on my laptop, but don't want to try if it isn't going to work.

Can you tell me how to get this mod?
I would appreciate it also, for reasons as you stated in your first post (being stubborn )

Just use Apache? Better than IIS anyway.
