Riddle of the week...
Last weeks (just to catch up with the BBC site)...
what sport should be added to the following group of words? "sexist sleevefish profusion delighted extraneous growth furtiveness nevertheless"
This weeks...
Double or Quits
In a moment of terror,
Though the feeling is passing,
I put on my skiing goggles
For the snow that is lashing
And running down my face.
I need to get a grip.
Can my nerves do my bidding
Or are they abandoning ship?

Re: Riddle of the week...
The poem describes the realisation that "Titanic" has just come on and you can't find the TV remote control.

Sounds like somewhere cold.
A passing Terror... Might be a trip/journey to the south/North Pole.
Either that or perhaps its Eddie da Eagle? About to do a sky jump with a little snow falling?
Tobogan (sp?) run?
Setting off an avalanche and trying to beat it to the the bottom (and survive) competition (didn't make it to the olympics...)
Feeling like a fly on the inside of a closed window (Thunk!)
If I post a lot, it is because I am bored at work! ;D Or stuck...

Re: Riddle of the week...
It's the title that is annoying me, what does Double or Quits have to do with snow? Suggests gambling of some kind

The Answer
The answer is Tennis as all the above words have anagrams of numbers in the middle:
extra(neo)us --> one
gr(owt)h --> two
nev(erthe)less --> three
p(rofu)sion --> four
slee(vefi)sh --> five
se(xis)t --> six
furti(venes)s --> seven
del(ighte)d --> eight
T(enni)s --> nine

Re: Riddle of the week...
Double in the title probably refers to a Double Black Diamond, a classification of ski trails, and being amonst the most difficult. IT soulds like someone's inner battle as they stand at the top of the hill, looking down the trail and realizes "What the frag have I gotten myself into." I've done that myself a couple of times.

Re: Riddle of the week...
Answer to the riddle:
The solution lay in identifying the double letters of each word that appeared in the passage - terror, feeling, passing, skiing, goggles, running, need, bidding. Put together they spell RESIGNED.
