[RESOLVED] Random Spaces Showing Up In My Signature
Could these random spaces be a forum software bug? Look into Post #17 in this thread to see what I mean:

Re: Random Spaces Showing Up In My Signature
Could you have done an edit to your sig after #11? Maybe an extra couple of carriage returns?
Try an edit now and trim off all trailing chars.

Re: Random Spaces Showing Up In My Signature
It's been like that since Post #1. No trailing characters what so ever.

Re: Random Spaces Showing Up In My Signature
I see no bug. Did you read manavo11's post? He knows
If you look at the posts where you have excess blank space at the bottom of your signature, those are the ones where the left panel (where your avatar, post count etc. is) is at its minimum size. If the post size is bigger, the signature length then becomes the factor that determines the complete post height.

Re: Random Spaces Showing Up In My Signature
I have a rather long signature compared to yours so I never have any extra space after it. Your old one was long enough for that too.

Re: Random Spaces Showing Up In My Signature
If that was true then why is #11 smaller? If it was a minimum size teh it should be the same?
The only other thing I see is that #11 contains a quote tag and the larger ones of his dont.

Re: Random Spaces Showing Up In My Signature
You could measure the size of them all and find that on the other posts, they are the same height. The signature is merely positioned higher when the post length is shorter. With post #11 the quote tag lengthens the post content and combined with the signature that makes the post longer than the minimum left panel height, so it is both
a) bigger than the other posts and
b) there is no need for any extra spacing after the signature, since the post is already over the minimum height.
If you understand how tables work in HTML, it is perfectly normal behaviour.

Re: Random Spaces Showing Up In My Signature
Ypu, looks like mar_zim nailed it to requiring a minimum of 4 lines in your post or it will stretch the signature.
Ps, "Hoodie" isnt that just another version of a "Hood Rat"?

Re: Random Spaces Showing Up In My Signature
Well, it depends on the length of your sig. As I mentioned, mine is fairly long (and so is yours) so you never see any space after them.
I don't know what a "Hood Rat" is but around here a hoodie is a shady character, often a gang member I thought it especially appropriate given my avatar

Re: Random Spaces Showing Up In My Signature
I compared the HTML signature content and its the same in both posts. I should have checked the table data also but too late now.
Ps, a "Hood Rat" is similar to the term that rymes with what santa clause laughs with. But yes, with your new avatar "Hoodie" or is it "Hoody" can be related. I just never heard that term around here.

Re: Random Spaces Showing Up In My Signature
I see. No, they are definitely not related
If you want to look at the post composition in detail:
- Each post is a table
- Each post table is divided into three rows, the top row has the time and post number, the middle row is the post content, and the bottom has the online details, rep link, warn link, and quote/quick reply buttons.
- The middle section is divided into two columns, left part has the avatar etc., and the right has the post content:
- A <div> area which contains the post title
- A horizontal separator
- <div> containing the post content
- <div> containing the signature
Since the post content and signature are all lumped in together the browser treats them as one block of text. In deciding on a vertical size for the table, it has to fit both the left part (avatar etc.) and the right part (post + sig). Whichever is smaller will therefore have extra spacing at the bottom, so that the row is rectangular.

So I need more stuff in my signature to make it always fit, right?

Re: Random Spaces Showing Up In My Signature
Correct. How about a blank line separating "Give sensible..." and "Be sure to use..."? Also, add some colored text?

Nah I'm thinking about putting project links in there.

Re: Random Spaces Showing Up In My Signature
Well this issue seems to be solved. So I guess it should continue in your CC thread.
Noooo! Not the ECCC logo.
Project links but I assume that by project you mean DX projects.
