Resolved [RESOLVED] Sex discrimination by the word filter

I'm intending this to be funny, but I'm still not posting it in the Chit Chat as it is related to the forum software.

I was searching for a post about motorbikes, and a thread about trans-sexuals poped up (?!?), so I was curious to see why would someone wirte about that on VB forums .

    Here is the link: http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.p...ight=motorbike

Notice post number 8. You can clearly see that the word (male reproductive organ, begining with letter P) is 'starred' by the word filter, but the word (female reproductive organ, begining with V) is not 'starred' by the filter.
Now, I call discrimination on that. In fact, I'm going to start a petition in the Chit Chat on this matter.

I demand sexual equality! Am I right men? Who's with me?

Either both words should be in or out of the word filter.

I personally don't find either word offensive but I guess there's more tee-heeing buy some when they see a post that contains the word ***** than there are when it contains vagina.

I don't plan on adding vagina to the filtered word list. If I did, would breast be next?

People are starting to use the word Pensi a lot though to bypass the filter. Wouldn't it be fair to add that to the filter list, along with many other words, such as vagina, breast, sex, etc?

After all, what do those have to do with programming and computers in this family forum?

As someone said before, that is how you make a family

That's what I told NoteMe in one of his sexual related threads when he mentioned it was a family forum

The word "pen*s" is not offensive, it is the correct terminology to use when referring, as one does, to the male reproductive organ. Neither "pen*s" nor "vagina" should be censored. IMO it is in fact more offensive (bearing in mind this is a "family" forum) to use slang words which are not censored to refer to these items.

Re: Sex discrimination by the word filter

    In my opinion --

There is no need to use either word on this forum unless you are writing medical software or something similar. Even then the words could be avoided and thus are not needed ON THIS FORUM - including chit chat.

As such, neither word should need to be filtered nor should either word need to be used ON THIS FORUM. Having said that....

If someone decides to use either word, then the context the word is used in will be considered and if that usage is something that <delete>could be </delete> <add> is </add> considered offensive or unnecessary for this forum, then chances are a banning will happen.

Additionally, if someone uses a variant (changed spelling) of a word that is censored, that is grounds for AUTOMATIC BANNING because you know we said the word couldn't be used and you intentionally avoided the censor.

Unlike the post that started this thread, mine *is* serious. In fact, I'll put it on my calendar to search for the words next week to see if I should ban a few people. (That is a hint to clean up any posts you've made)

I would say that breast has too many meanings to be banned. Someone might use chest as an alternative to anatomical reference, and there are alternatives to the non-anatomical uses of breast, but it is unlike the other words mentioned here.

Frankly, if you have to use sexually explicit words to convey your point, you should re-consider the algorithm. There's always a more artistic way to make your point.

... in fewer words: use your common sense.

I don't think that this is a new rule. I think it is an old forum rule.

Re: [RESOLVED] Sex discrimination by the word filter

I just removed two posts that used alternate letter spacing to display a couple of words that would normally be partially blocked by the filter. In other words lets assume that "cat" is a rude word and what they did was to post S C A T rather than scat which the filter would have displayed as s***.

Please don't do that since it can technically get you banned. If you are serious about wanting to know why certain words are banned then PM me and I'll explain.
