Oh well! I should have known
Big dissapointment, I finally after much travail completed my first vb.net programme. Triumphantly fired it off to my friends, and waited their praise. But no one could run it because they had not installed the .net framework. These are just your basic computor owners and have no need as yet for the .net system. If I had known I would have done the programme in VB classic. Actually I have enjoyed the programming but with all the tutorials available and I read a heap of them, none pointed out the obvious fact that a computor needs the .net framework to run .net programmes.
Cheers Pete

If they had updated their windows they should have it already on thier computers. I haven't had a problem yet, sold a few applications and of course I always tell them they need .NET framework on and I always get the same reply "Ya already got that on because I updated" *shrug*.

Re: Oh well! I should have known
You say that your friends have no "need" of the .NET Framework but obviously they do. Your's is not the only .NET app out there you know. More and more will appear and anyone who wants to use any of them will "need" the .NET Framework installed. I don't think every VB6 tutorial out there specifies that you must have the VB runtime files installed to run a VB6 app, so what's the difference? It's up to you as a developer to do the research and know what the prerequisites are for running your app. There would be a great many threads on this forum alone that point out that the .NET Framework is required to run a .NET app, not to mention the countless other places on the Net that would provide the same information.

It's also VERY simple to add the .NET runtimes, though you can't do it with a floppy. Just download and distribute the dotnetfx.exe.

Don't worry, they will. How soon? That depends on what they're using their computers for...Norton Ghost for example needs the .Net 1.1 framework.

That's why it's called obvious.
