In the BIOS, go to Chipset (or Onboard) Features -> AC97, set it to Enabled.

You know when you start up and you get a message saying press Del (or sometimes Ctrl+F1) to enter the BIOS setup screen? Press it, and then go to the Chipset features menu, and down the AC97, and enable it (Usually PgUp, PgDn to scroll between options).

BTW, haven't you asked an admin to change your name rather than creating all these accounts?

If they changed it for you, they'd have to change it for everybody, and they can't be doing that. There has to be a real good reason for them to change it.
