    Filipino Language Help

I see there are some Filipino's on board here. Need some quick language help.

Long story short - an acquaintance of mine (guy I sold a car to) is bringing his Filipino "girlfriend" over tomorrow and her 3 year old daughter to pick up the title and play with my 4 year old daughter. Thought it would be cool if my daughter could say "Hello" and "Friend" in whatever language you guys speak. Apparently, the mom speaks semi decent english, but the kid speaks/understands no english. So, what are the words for Hello and Friend? I'm guessing there's more than one language spoken there, and I have no idea what they may speak or what part of the Philippenes they are from as they're pretty much fresh off the boat and I haven't met either one. So the most common would be helpful.

    Thanks

Thanks oceanbelle. I don't know if I'll see her tomorrow or not. My mother and father in law will be hear watching my daughter while I work. They will probably be here while I'm at work, but I may be able to sneak out and make it home in time to meet them, kind of doubt it though. Looks like some of those will come in handy - my daughter is really good with languages, speaks some spanish already at 4, so why not throw in some Filipino!

    Thanks for the help!!

Yea, amiga looked familiar. I have always kind of thought that spanish was spoken there. My knowledge of foreign language goes about as far as "STOP" "LAY DOWN". And no, those aren't my pick up lines.

There is one Island where the people speak SPANISH (or perhaps a subset) They call it Chabakano, and I think anyone from Spain or speaks spanish could do well there ... ... Havn't lived there though... Visayan (Cebuano a subset) is very widely used but official is Filipino (Tagalog a subset that closely resembles it)

    Oceanebelle -

Apparently, your help helped! I wasn't here at all, went straight to the race track after work - but from the mother in laws report - they got a big kick out of my daughter attempting some words of friendship.

    I'm really glad
