    DVD Drive Conked Out

    My DVD drive has stopped reading / recognising my discs, no matter what cd i put in my dvd drive wont recognise it but my cd rewriter will, has anyone heard of this happening before or know a way of fixing it?

    Microsoft gives you Windows, Linux gives you the whole house!

    Replacing the drive would be the easy fix

    Ive considered doing so, but I searched on google see if I could find any answers and some other people have had the same problem and have got new drives and have experienced the same problem, so I dont know whether I should buy a new one or not

    are the IDE cables okay? Power is getting to it? It might be a misaligned laser...

    all the cables are fine, it's just stopped reading my discs and I cant understand why :S the misaligned laser sounds quite convincing, if thats the case is their anything I can do?
