Well I'm a student, so I'm obviously in debt It's all student loan though, so I only pay interest at the rate of inflation on it. It's pretty sweet, it means I can invest my savings in investment funds and/or shares and make money out of it To be honest, I don't need all the loan money, but I take everything they offer cos I can just put it in the bank and make money on it if I don't invest it.

Well, are you just talking credit cards?

I am $1500 in debt on my credit cards. Most of that was stuff for the wedding.

If you are talking other debt, these are my balances:

    Car - $7500
    Truck - $2500
    Student loans - $10,000
    House - $100,000

    Grand Total - $121,500

    Ouch! I know...

This is mine and my fiancee's debt combined. We wouldn't be doing too bad if it wasn't for the house.

    Normal is boring...

If you count the house I'm 144,656.00 dollars in debt....OUCH!!!! My house payment is 1200/month and my car payment is 698.00 dollars per month...it hurts but it's worth it in the long run...at least that's what I keep telling myself!

I have a horrible feeling that I've asked this before, but what's a suburban?

    Oh My God!

    $700 for one vehicle?

My house payment is $1000, but I can't imagine paying $700 for one vehicle. Our two vehicles together are only $660!

    I sure hope it's nice!

Maybe I will be able to afford that after my children move out of the house in 19-20 years (estimated, since 2nd child is not in the works yet).

After the kids move out I won't need anything like that anymore! I have the Suburban LS....sun roof, eight speakers and a sub-woofer, leather seats etc...I love it but it only gets 16 miles to the gallon....

There is a rule on VB-World that Americans are not allowed to ***** about the gas prices....since they are a lot lower than the UK.....but yep it's killing me.

My car is a Pontiac Grand Am, so it's not hurting me there so bad, but my fiancee's Extended Cab Chevy truck is a gas hog. What are the gas prices over in the UK?

What's so bloody suburban about it anyway? Maybe if you lived in a field or at the top of a mountain you could make use of a car like that, but what do you need a 5.3 litre V8 for in the suburbs? Running down the neighbour's irritating dog?

It's a normal neighborhood except it's inside the gates of the base...just show your id when entering and don't piss off the Security Police and you'd never know it from anywhere else!

Hmm... thats wierd.... it's probably normal for you by now, but for me, that would just be wierd having to show an ID to get into the neighborhood......

It's not that bad. My kids go to school on base...my husband works off base...we come and go as we please and have a very nice community feel to our neighborhood. the only bad part is having your neighbors get orders all the time so you lose some good friends to other bases.

Katie, I seem to remember excusing you for owning such a ridiculously big car ( ) last time I asked what a suburban was. I remember it now.

Harry...yes you did and I do appreciate it. There are some drawbacks to living on base...like your police force being little 18 year old boys with M-16s...but we can't have everything.

I worked over in Calif for a few weeks a year or so ago, and i hired a suburban for the whole time. The are great! Big huge car, big huge roads, ridiculously cheap petrol. Superb!! Each weekend i'd drive from the valley to Tahoe (300ish miles i think) and it was a pleasure. If they sold them over here, i would definatley get one. Oh, but then again, if you want style, we do have Range Rovers ;-)

I was talking about debts in general... if there is such a thing...anyways

My car is a gas hog..and not because of it's size..but because of the engine..i USED to be a hot rodder..so yeah you can figure by now that my motor guzzles the gas just like an alcoholic at 1$ beers at the local bar :0)

I was thinking of finacing a new car...a 98 Chevy cavalier... not 10,000$ total... i could put down a nice down payment ..maybe 3,000$ and not have THAT HUGE of a monthly payment..but then i thought about buying my friends
68 Chevy Nova for 3,000.. yeah yeah.. i wont have to worry about the smog check..monthly payments... or full coverage insurance!!! woooohooooo.

Here is my first installment of "Yeah this would only happen to me"

I overheard today on the t.v. that in los angeles area the weakest point that would recieve the most damage due to an earthquake... and they said that
"The meeting point of the 710 freeway and 105 freeway are the most weakest areas in the L.A. County"

.....and just my luck..that is the exact point i cross when i drive too college hehehehahaha woooooohooooooooo yah!.

All these wimpy debts... I owe over £120,000 ($180,000) on the house but the payments are only £785 a month (>$1,200). There is probably about £3K on the credit cards, but I don't worry about them. As long as my assets exceed my debts by a 2:1 margin, I am not worried. Why is money so expensive in the States? How long is the loan period? Ours is a standard 25 years...

As to Petrol (or Gas, as you, very inaccurately call it, since it combusts directly from the liquid state). That costs £0.80/litre or approximately $5.50 per gallon. That is very approximate since US Gallons and Imperial gallons are not quite the same. I believe that is somewhat MORE than double your price.

    Cheers,

    P.
