Beginning .NET Game Programming in VB .NET

Anyone ever heard of this book? From some reviews I have heard it is a great book to start off with, and is an amazing tutorial for VB .NET game programming.

They start you off with a GDI+ tetris game and move onto a 3D networking game.

Was just wondering if the hype was correct. Post your opinions

It got a bad review in Computer Shopper. Saying that it deals with outdated techniques and sparse detail. I don't know because I haven't read it myself.

I bought it lol..its okay so far...Learning the basics of GDI+...but its giving me stupid errors..and it leave some information out (like how to call certain procedures they made)

No, backups are copies for yourself of what you already have (and haven't sold/given away).

I strongly suggest that you (and anybody else who has similar ideas) don't make copyrighted material available to other people.

Don't worry, I know how to cover my butt And if any of the mods/admins dont like me posting this, I'll gladly remove it.

But, a backup does not have to be for my own personal use. If a friend of mine buys the same book, and wants an e-book version as a backup, there is nothing wrong with me giving them a copy

There are two things wrong with that:
1) It does have to be for your own use.
2) Your friend does not have the right to an e-book backup, unless they already have it as an e-book. They only have rights to the format that they bought it in. Note that (depending on country) books tend to have stricter copyright restrictions in terms of "backups".


No matter how you try to justify it, giving anyone a copy of copyrighted material is not legal.

and just a question..but if its not legal, then how can websites such as torrentspy.com host windows XP Professional and a CD Keygen and not get taken down? Is it not because theyre offering the downloads solely for 'backup' purposes?

There will allwasy be sites like that but 90% of the time there hosted ina country where the laws dont act.

torrentspy is a peer-to-peer network, meaning that members of the public make the downloads available, rather than the site itself. AFAIK the laws tend to apply to the people making things available (the law of their own country, like Pino mentioned), as opposed to the site itself.

Depending on the network, most copyrighted software is blocked if it has been named correctly, and others will be removed when noticed by the staff, or if they are reported.

I had a quick look, and nobody is hinting at 'backup' purposes - but then most are either special installations needing your own keys (such as "lite" or "Borg" versions), or have been posted in the last couple of weeks.

I've got no idea what the view of Microsoft (or other companies) is, but I'm sure they aren't keen on it happening.
