Would it be possible to remove the "You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to <username> again", part of the rep system?
I often have the same people helping me with my problems, and when I try to rep them, it gives me that error. So just so I can rep them again I give reps to people who dont necessarily deserve them..
Right now I'm pretty sure I cant rep NoteMe, Jacob Roman, Hack, RobDog888, Joacim Anderson, Pino...and maybe a few others...

Re: Reputation
Well, if we do that it might be misused. Or WILL be missused. because people can then make an second account and rate them self as many times you want, or rate a friend on so many times they want.
It has all ready been dropped from 25 to 10 if I am not wrong, and I don't think the admins will drop it any furuther.
Well sorry you can't rep me now...ehehe...just kidding.. I must agree with you though. In sections with few uesers it is impossible to get your spread covered. In the big forums it shouldn't be a problem.

This is really the driving force behind the rule and I think it is a good rule.
It also is probably not a good practice to rep someone that doesn't deserve it just to get up to the 10 count of someone that does. You don't have to rep someone just because they helped you. I've rep'ed people before just because I really liked the answer they gave to someone else's question or because they posted a pretty neat piece of code in response to a question.

I do this a lot too. At least in the sections where I am a moderator. Because I read all threads every day. So if I find something interesting that I didn't know, or someone helped somone with a big problem, then I give them a rating. I also have my own bookmark folder in Fx, so if I see someone that really deserves a rep, but I can't give it to them it at the moment because of my spread, then I save the post as a bookmark in that folder, and get back to it later on.

This is an excellent idea NoteMe!

Re: Reputation
Actualy, I've wondered if there's a way to get the bookmark feature built into the user CP... so that if I find a usefgul thread, I can save it as a "Favorite Thread" -- I don't necessarily want to subscribe to it, but it may have some usefull info I could use. Yes... I could use the Bookmarks in Fx, but then I'd only have it a home or at work.... if it was a part of the CP, then no matter when I'm logged into, I'd have it.

Add them to your signature, or make a web page where you can store links.. ..thats the best solutiong I have...
Here is also a thread about this issue, and some work arounds:

Re: Reputation
I was a part of that thread, and none of it is any help.... Sending an email is no good as I would only then have it at home. A bookmark in Fx isn't good because it would be at work when I need it at home and vice-versa. A subscription doesn't help as I already have that turned on, and I don't care about getting updates, I just want to be able to find the thread 4 months from now when I need to. All I was looking for was a one-click built-in solution, which sounds like it will never happen, so I've gotten to be on good terms with the search function.

Re: Reputation
Here is what I have been doing since Feb. (the ultimate solution ).
When you give a Rep I note the member in my Private Calendar with a link to the post that I gave to.
I can then browse through all the days to see how many more I need to give to in order to cover any spread for any member that I have given to.
I also, note posts that are worthy for future rep'ings until I cover the spread.
Since its in the Private Calendar it follows me to any computer that I log on to VBF with (either at home on any of my systems or at work too ).
Not having to be tied to a particular computer or post it notes or bookmarks or favorites..... Priceless

Re: Reputation
How far back can we go back and give reputation? a year, two years? is there a limit? That would be a way to spread needed reputation.

Re: Reputation
No limit. I have done that if I have needed something and found a thread that solved my question so I didn't need to ask. RobDog got the point last time..

Re: Reputation
You can give a Rep to any post in any valid Rep'able Forum.
You can even Rep in Feedback Forum too.
