Is it possible to share my dsl 512kbps with my Pal, who is accessing my computer via IIS ftp he is only downloading at 5kbps/56k dialup.
Or is there a better/faster way to share files.
Thanks Paul

no, you can only transfer the files as fast as the slowest link...
if you were fairly close to eachother, within a few hundred feet, you could setup a pier-to-pier network (wirelessly), it would only cost you about $50-$100 (all together)

are you asking if you can 'up' the speed of his file transfers from your computer? thre is a setting you can adjust to throttle iis. I'm not sure if it is only available in a real server though...meaning i'm not sure if xp pro/home have that setting...i KNOW 2000 server has that cause i used it the other day..
ya, i would like to know also... if i had to take a guess, i would guess it is almost exactly the way DSL works, in that you have to live close ehough to one of their router things to get it, so i doubt everyone will beable to get it... but that is my guess, with no research to back it up!

Is it true to say that uploads/downloads are the same, and speed is determind by the slowest link.
final speed is dtermined by a lot of things starting with computer one and ending with computer one...anything in the middle will and CAN slow down a transfer. network traffic, even STATIC electricity can slow things down...believe it or not, the WEATHER can affect speed...when it gets hot outside, the speeds will decrease a tad.
i did some research on that new G3... what a bunch of bull! it is just another accelorated downloader thing.
heres a little quote:

How does NetZero HiSpeed 3G work?
Data Compression and Image Optimization - Before the text and graphics that make up Web pages get sent to you over your phone line, NetZero HiSpeed 3G compresses them using a proprietary technology. Less data is sent so your surfing experience is much faster!
Memory Enhancement - NetZero HiSpeed 3G uses caching technology to store elements of frequently visited Web sites so they load faster on future visits. So in addition to an immediate boost, your surfing will get even faster as you continue to use NetZero HiSpeed 3G.
Continuous Optimization - NetZero HiSpeed 3G continuously optimizes the communication between your system's modem and our network while you are online. That means that it is always working to shorten the amount of time it takes to connect you to the sites you visit.
Pop-Up Blocking - NetZero HiSpeed 3G features a pop-up blocker, which means that you no longer have to wait for annoying pop-up ads to load.
