    Resolved [RESOLVED] Mouse goes wacky

In WinXP I often find that while doing whatever task with the mouse it suddenly disappears from sight, as though it had become invisible. Actually, if you start jerking it, it eventually comes back from the one of the screen border, apparently from way outside the screen.

    Has anyone experienced this?

does it do this only when some applications are ran? do you have an an uptodate antivirus? try running in safemode or by shutting down some of the programs you have running...

last thing... look for a new driver?

Well, the thing is hard to track down unless I keep some sort of log book. It occurs somewhat randomly. When it happened yesterday I had various windows open with PowerPoint, Excel and VB6. I do have an autoupdate antivirus, but I don't think this has anything to do with it.
I put down this idea about the new driver.

That hapens for me to, but I have a wireless & optical mouse, so in my case I blame it on other signals the receiver might receive (other radio interference).

no... now that i think of it my mouse does the same thing... accept i blame it on the surface that i use the mouse on, my bed(when it gets rinckled and stuff!)

If its an optical mouse, make sure that is is not on a shiny surface of any kind, as this can interfere with the optical signals and cause the mouse to behave erratically.

Yes it's an optical mouse... Maybe I'll use another mousepad and see what happens.

    Re: Mouse goes wacky

When troubleshooting mouse problems with optical mice, one thing you can do to "rule out" problems with reflection, etc (which can even happen on regular laquered wood) is to just tape a blank sheet of white paper to the desk. Optical mice almost never have a problem with plain paper surfaces. If you still get the jumps and dissapears, then your problem is elsewhere.

I have found the same. I have actually ditched the mouse mat in favour of plain paper. Also I find that bumpy surfaces tend to muck up the optical reflection too.

Well I'm becoming so forgetful with age... It was only yesterday that I finally remembered to do the test. And yes sir, it worked like magic!
