The Game Engine is the part that runs the actual game. It translates the map into a language it can understand, then uses that data to plot the game with items, walls, monsters etc.

...and calculates the AI, mixes the sound and music, moves the players, runs the scripts, detects collisions, animates sprites, ... just everything a game does. (Two parts: Data / Engine. Thats it)

And the control interface plugs into that.

to simplify the previous posts, everything that is the game, except for the interface and the story / maps / levels.

Doom2 and Doom2 both used the same engine (I think called Doom)

Duke Nukem 3d (The first one) and Redneck Rampage both used the Build engine.

I think Unreal and Half-Life use the same engine.

Quite a few Blizzard games (Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo) all use the same engine, (Although the Diablo engine was a modified version)

Most games' engine are specifically written for that game, though.

Simcity's game engine (SimCity Classic) is a unique engine. So are most of the other games from Electronic Arts (aka Maxis).

Almost every games for the playstation has a unique engine.

Unreal uses a completely different engine.

Half-Life uses a modified Quake engine.

    Nice.

So what sorts of things are coming up in Unreal 2?

By Unreal, do you guys mean Unreal Tournament?

Fox: I noticed in your signature that you have the Zelda website, have you played the new Majora's Mask game?

Unreal Tournament uses the same engine (just about) as Unreal, which was released quite a while before.

    What a question!

I played all ZELDA parts (excepting part 1+2 on NES ) and I'm really a ZELDA fan I think! Majoras mask was great, I liked it very much! But I also like Ocarina of Time which was great because it was 3D and anyways it had the real ZELDA feeling

Well, before I go I want to let you know that I rather buy a new ZELDA than any PC-game... Hope that will never change

    Thanks *bows*

    I couldn't agree more with you about buying zny Zelda game before a PC game;

I played all Zelda games except for Majora's Mask. I bought it yesterday, but found out I needed the expansion pack so I couldn't play it! (lol). I checked a bunch a sotres but they're all out of them, so I guess I'm going to have to wait.

Do you find MM to be better than OOT? I've heard sum people say that it isn't the same without Ganon and Zelda, but others say it's much better.

Indeed the games in another dimension and there's no Ganon But anyways it's one of the best Zeldas ever (yet ) And in my opinion it's a bit better than OoT. In fact it's a bit harder I think... but not too hard of course. One more thing: The secrets are harder to find! I had no problems getting all hearts in OoT but I still miss 10 pieces in MM ...

One thing I'm really missing in MM: There's no more way to go fishing

    Great game!

Anyone who read this buy ZELDA!

I can't wait to get the expansion pack. The majority of the people I'm asking say it's just as good or even better than OOT.

Got a question for you about OOT. Is it true that if you collect all of the Skullta's and the Heart pieces, Zora's domain we unfreeze? Some of the Heart Pieces are really hard to get on here. For example, a friend of mine told me that I could get Heart Pieces if I win the bombchu bowling game and the key game, but they seem nearly impossible!

As far as I remember Zoras domain unfreezes during the game, didn't notice something after collecting all hearts..

note: had no problems collecting all in OOT, but still missing more than 10 in MM!
