    Can my adsl D/L 2000 KB ?????

    Hi all

I have an adsl connection with 1500/256 which is the max spped available in oz, as far as i know with our getting cable.

I ve been noticing that when i connect to a server to download a file i get a spike that some times reads 250KB. then it slowly starts to decrease

Now just a few minutes ago i downloaded a 50 meg file but this time i noticed a spike of 2200 KB now that is one of the biggest spike i have ever seen and it lasted for about 5 seconds before it slowly started to decrease in value.

my question is is that an accurate measurement of the spike that im getting?? im using netscape navigator the latest version.

and iif the spike of 2200 KB is accurate can it be programmed from my end to keep it open for longer?

    any advise would be appreciated

    thanks

The speed may or may not be accurate.... because it's calculated, based on the time elapsed and the amount of the file that has been received. Some browsers will also begin part of the d/l while it's still asking where to put the file (in this case it simply gets routed to your temp folder). Once you tell it where the file shoulde go, it copies over from the temp folder to where you told it to, giving it the appearance of a spike. Then as more of the file is d/l the numbers become more accurate - which is why the number slowly drains down.

lol thanks for the honesty, but what you are saying makes alot of sense now. For those intrested i tried this to try to prove your theory wrong but i was unsuccessfull it turn out you may be right.

I opened my favourite P2P network and just started downloading anything i could get my hands on, (it didnt matter whether i needed it or not) and after having more than 50 different download lines i could not open my band width bigger than 150 - 160 KB. I let it go for about 5 minutes and although the whole thing was like watching a yoyo unfortunately it did not give me the results i was after

    thanks for your reply
