its hard to say i doubt u could get the "best" of the selfs but if it was to be custom built u would have to find out the very best components and what the computer for? (Video Editing/Office/Gaming?)
i hope this website helps u find good components i have purchased from ebuyer in the past very reliable

I have always built custom PC's and had no problems. However that said, for a first PC I would recommend buying off the shelf. This is because of extras you will need, a monitor, keyboard, mouse, software etc.
In terms of a high spec performance PC you will find it difficult to buy one out of the box cheap, although there are plenty of places you can get custom built PC's!

Re: Whats the best PC?
Intel Celeron D @ 2816mhz
768Mb RAM
256Mb AGP 8x GFX CARD (Radeon 9550)
80Gb 7200Rpm ATA Drive.
Tis what i'm running, nothing special, in fact the GFX Card is only on 4x because my mobo doesn't support any higher, yet it suports processers upto 4.2Ghz (strange)
The best i have seen so far -
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (X2 means Dual Core) @ 5600+ (oc'd)
6144Mb RAM @ DDR420 (yes, its oc'd)
Dual GeForce 6800GT totalling 512Mb of Gfx memory (Sli)
Unsure on Mobo :S
But yeah, thats gonna cost alot to make...

www.voodoocomputers.com. I saw an f5 last year when i was at the Las Vegas computer convention. Quite impressive. It's now been renamed "The Omen".
Someone posted a link a while back in the chit chat forum for a computer company. The computers looked pretty cool and the specs were crazy. I forget the name of the company though. It was rockwell somthing.

Re: Whats the best PC?
Mine used to be the best/fastest when I built it almost 2 years ago.
Pentium 4 2.8 HT 800 FSB
1 Gig Dual channel DDR RAM
Dual RAID Mirrors:
2 - 40 GB 8 MB Cache ATA 7200 Rpm HDs RAID 1
2 - 120 GB 8 MB Cache SATA 7200 Rpm HDs RAID 1
ATI Radeon Pro 128
Now, I'm planning a new faster system
Can't wait to get it.
