I'm considering taking a programing position that is 37 miles from my house (one direction). Does that seem too far? (Approx 74 miles per day). It seems like a good place and I drive the ever-fuel-efficient Honda Civic. It's just that traffic in Northern NJ sucks. I can be looking at a morning commute of 1 1/2 hours. How far do you people commute? (if you do)

    About 3 miles ;-)

You could get yourself a bike, then commuthing becomes a pleasure.

You guys are lucky. I wish that I had that commute. I would be dead if I biked it. It's all highways (4 lanes).

you could drive a tank and you still wouldn't be safe commuting in Northern NJ.

Wink Fold the map to cut out towns.

Previously I worked 6 miles from my house and it'd about 25mins to drive, so I biked (a safe route) of 7 miles and it took 30mins. But the job stank. So I now travel 40 or so miles and it normally takes about 50mins (that figures.... the last 34 miles must be very short), but when it's light I can do jungle light speed and it takes around 42 mins.

I reckon by folding the map I can get different roads to join up, thus cutting the distance down from 40miles

Now: 2 min walk, 25 min train, 7 min walk

1 year ago: 74 mile each way from London to Oxford - I had seriously had enough after a year of that...

37 miles could be bearable but 1.5 hours each way will become a real grind after a while. I DO NOT recommend it long term.

    Cheers,

Depends on who drops my son off at daycare. If my fiance drops him off, I have a 15 minute drive (10 miles). If I drop him off, it takes about 35 minutes (16 miles). My son's daycare provider is my sister, so she has to talk for about 10 minutes every morning.
    Normal is boring...

    5mins walk, 15mins train, 15mins walk.

Unless the train's late, which they invariably are. (DAMN CENTRAL TRAINS! )
