Help populating database!

hi guys!

i need some help here....a friend of mine, team member need to populate his access database with list of countries in the world and also cities inside that country.......

then, he needs to put them on a drop down list....or something like that..

do you guys know an easy way to get the data populated into access?

Getting it back out is very easy. But, the only way I know of to get it in is to manually enter each record. I don't know of anywhere that has an actually file that lists all countries and cities within those countrys that you could import (unless, of course, one of our members has something like that)

to think about it.....service registration like hotmail, etc which asks for country should probably have similar database, right?

I'm sure they do, that has been built over time as new people registered. There are probably tons of sites out there that have the same type of database, but the burning question is whether or not they are going to just dump the countries/cities field(s) from the DB and give it up.

Actually you can get this information from the ISO (at www.ISO.org )

You need to pay them for lots of the information they have, but I believe that the country list is still free (if you can find it, I couldn't with a quick search).

If I was going to do this I'd be temped to write an app to download and parse the pages then add the info to a DB

well, poor him...not just the country...but my boss wants the cities as well....
