By asking one of the administrators, or more specifically, Brad Jones.

It helps if you've been here for a while so that you're 'well known'.

And to add to mendhaks point, obviously its best not to have had any run-ins with the mods/admins before and to have shown why you should be a mod

Jamie being the exception, of course.

You also have to go through several training/timeshare seminars, and a urinalysis. After that its just a matter of the monthly dues.

Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Cry, and you just water down your vodka.

    Re: Becoming a moderator

We currently have 13 moderators so it's not likely that we'll need a new one in the near future unless someone resigns as Jamie did recently. Brad has given me the responsibility for choosing moderators so if you are interested you should PM me rather than Brad. I don't make the decision on my own however. I consult with the other moderators and we discuss the candidates before any decision is made. In choosing candidates we try to include people who have shown an interest but in order to be considered as a moderator a person needs to...
    • Have been around for a while
    • Have a good knowledge of the forum topic where the moderator is needed
    • Have shown the ability to communicate clearly in both technical and non-technical discussions
    • Have a history of mature conduct on the forums

VBForums is a community forum. So anything you do is for the community, not for money. Nobody gets paid for this, because it's something you want to do, to help out.

    Re: Becoming a moderator

Why would you post anything else?

Just because you are a mod does not mean that you cant post a joke or two or chat in the Chit Chat forum.

Nobody expects you to know the answer to every qustion, if that is what you mean. You dont have to have ultra high post count and maintain an average of XX posts per day.

Is there a minimum reputation to be considered as candidate? Or longevity?

    Re: Becoming a moderator

Well, that is up to the moderators to decide. I have been 'out' for last two months becuase of my traffic accident, I just recently started visiting the forums again, so I cant say I notice you before, but you've been quite active last few days.

The main thing is, do you concider your self an expert for a forum branch that you want to moderate, and does that forums have a moderator already.

It doesn't take time to get well known. There have been a few members who were very "well known" in just a few days (Anyone remember the Snake game? ), and others in just a few months.

Depends upon your involvement with the place.

    Lol, mendhak...(Snake game)

Just become an active member of the forums thats the first step

As for what do you get out of it? Simple, you get to help people learn, and help create a community which is safe and appealing to everyone.

You should do this regardless of whether you are a member, a mod, a whatever.

In addition, just because you are a Mod doesn't mean you know everything, nor does it exempt you from making a mistake.

Contrary to, what may for some be, popular opinion, Mods are actually people too.

This is the reason I was not allowed to be a moderator. I am actually from a galaxy far far away, so...

I joined in January, and I've seen you around a lot in Classic VB, where I spend most of my time You seem to know your stuff and willing to help people But don't forget we already have a fair few mods... Check out this page which shows all the admins, mods and the forums they moderate.

I think penagate, dglienna and szlamany are more deserving to be a mod than me...... I'm still young and I think I would stick to VBForums for years... then perhaps get my chance.....
