Where can i buy Visual Basic 6?

I would like to buy a new or used Visual Basic 6 professional/Enterprice with a license. Does anyone know where i can get one? Right know i´m looking at ebay, but no luck so far.

You may find some copies of Professional in old stock. The only other way to get it is to purchase an MSDN subscription; it includes Visual Studio 6.0.

You can get it free legally if you are a college student. Plus theres plenty of other software they can hook you up with for free, such as Visual Studio 2003 .NET Pro, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP Pro, etc. I love school.

Yup, as much as folks like to decry Microsoft as Evil(tm), most of their software is available as Academic versions which are either free or extremely inexpensive. Schools can buy a version of MSDN (which has everything but Microsoft Office) which costs about $800 per department and allows unlimited redistribution to students. Even with multiple departments, it's nothing for a university to spend a few thousand dollars so that their students get the latest and greatest for free.

Of course, Microsoft doesn't do it purely out of the goodness of their hearts. They know that the more students they can get using their tools, particularly .NET, the better off they are down the road. AT&T basically did the same thing with UNIX back in the late 70s and 80s, before Linux and FreeBSD hit the streets.

You cant get VB 6 or VS 6 from M$ anymore even if you buy a MSDN subscription. Its all about .NET now.

I doubt the schools will keep it up for much longer. It's all about Net for them, too. My friend couldn't get it last semester. She got a care package with everthing but, though. Acedemic version of Net, though.

I just checked and it is included. My company gets the MSDN Universal Subscription and Visual Studio 6 is included on disc 2435.4 (May 2005).

Yes, for pre-existing subscriptions but how about new ones? I dont this so since they are no longer supporting it?

Just verified that it does come in new subscriptions but probably like the Note states - "By request only".

Actually, VB6 is still supported; it's in the "extended support" phase, which means that if you want support you have to pay for it, but they'll still talk to you. I think it reaches its end of life in 2008 and the VB6 runtime will be officially dead when XP reaches its end of life.

My last OEM license for Windows 2000 Pro was shipped with a CD-to-soundcard cable, aka hardware.

I´ve notised that most of the people that sells their Visual Basic doesn´t know if it comes with a license or not. Do you guys know if this is a version of Visual Basic that comes with a good license? I want to be 100% sure that i get a good license so i don´t get into trouble with Microsoft.

The Media kits do not include a License number. They are for when you buy volume licensing you dont get the CDs for all licenses,
only purchase one media kit to all you to do the physical instaallation.

For ex. if you purchased a volume license for 100 seats you would only get the paper certificate specifying the EULA and # of seats. Then you
have to purchase a media kit to run the installation. Then when it prompts you for the license # you enter your volume license # and repeat for
each install, the same lic #.

Its a way to reduce the cost of purchasing allot of copies without getting 100 physical CD copies.

I believe any will work but they may have made it only accept volume license numbers. They are a different series. I cant verify or
deny but back then I dont think they had the technology to do that but ???
