System Just drops video signal? [Resolved, Well immediate problem found]
System Specs:
ECS K7S5A motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 1700+
Infineon 400mhz DRR Ram (motherboard/processor only supports 266 / 200MHz FSB)
120GB Western Digital EIDE 7200 RPM
30GB Western Digital EIDE 7200 RPM
ATI 8mb AGP video card (had issues with ATI Radeon 7500 Series AGP)
300w powersupply.
---
This is one of my friends computers... It will run for a bit sometimes and then there is no video signal, All the lights on the computer are dead but the fans are still operating????
I have removed all drives (floppy, cdrom, hard drives) and their cables.
Checked the positioning of the video card/processor/memory all seem to be fine.
The Memory has been installed for about 6 months without any problems. although he had be install a Radeon 7500 about 4 months ago -- it worked fine for the first few months then it would just freeze in after or during startup. I installed one of my test cards and it worked fine and have been using the Radeon without problems.
Any Ideas?

sounds like the mother board is dead, because somtimes motherboards will cause stuff that is plugged into it to die, but verry verry seldum does it happen, but maybe he is one of those lucky ones!

Re: System Just drops video signal?
I think its an ATI issue with my system too! I have an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro 128 400 Mhz. There are times when I am not doing
anything and all video signal is lost. All lights are on etc. No choice but to loose my work and reboot.
I think its time to either get a new card or change video card brands.

That really doesn't encourage me :'(
BOTH my PC's have ATI cards...
i) Radeon 9550 256MB DDR AGP 8x DVI/O
ii) Radeon 9200SE 128MB DR AGP 8x
If they die i have no hopes :'(
But, i also have a decent Motherboard to deal with one...
i) Asus A7V600-X
ii) Giga-Byte (bag of crap)
and so on... but i've bored you enough... lol

Just thinking.... this may be a power management issue....
Try changing your power management profile to always on. Maybe something doesn't like being turned off...

Re: System Just drops video signal? [Resolved, Well immediate problem found]
Umm, I mean that I am not doing anything intense, just writting code. No running anything that could crash it. No power management
settings are on. I have it configured as always on, nothing turns off.
Only intermittently loss of video signal in the middle of doing nothing intense.
