How can I bypass the firewall to send and/or receive text messages?

The idea of firewalls is that you can't bypass them.

If you have access to the administrative features of the firewall, enable the ports/site/application required.

If you don't have administrative access, get the person who does to make these changes.

Yes, of course, but there must be a way to do it, something like FTP passive mode.
It is supposed to be a P2P chat.

Firewalls are designed to block all un-authorised traffic.

All network traffic goes through them, and they decide what to allow through or block, based on the settings applied by the administrator.

If the application/port you are using is blocked, it needs to be unblocked in the firewall settings.

Why do you need to bypass it?

Why cant you just change the settings (or get the administrator to do it)?

The point is that this P2P chat I am doing is for my client,and he wants that to be done.
P2P chat without any firewall configuration, that is, firewall bypass.

As far as I know the only way to do that would be to create a system which uses ports/applications/web-sites which are already allowed by the firewall.

One option would be to create a web-based system (with a regular refresh), but it would be much easier to configure the firewall.

Your firewall is likely blocking incoming requests but not outgoing traffic. In order to achieve what you want, 2 clients, each behind a firewall to communicate, then it is manditory that you have some server outside of each firewall to act as an intermediary arbiter. Each client must then connect to the server and communicate with eachother through its control. There is no other way, no matter how bad you want it.

Yes, that is correct, and as everyone has said, that is one of the things a firewall is designed to do and one of the reasons it exists in the first place.

If you have a client with a business need to bypass the security of your firewall then the client needs to speak with your management, who, in turn, can get with your network admins, providing, of course, that your management feels their need is valid.

Are you sure about this? Maybe not. Can your clients web-surf from behind their firewall? If so, then you're statement is not correct.
