ethereal.com :: Packet analyser :: effusion needs help! - volunteers?
Hi there,
I have decided to have a play around with sniffing internet packets. I found a great program to do so here -
http://www.ethereal.com/
I downloaded the program and WinPCap (the neccessary addon for Windows XP) however, it does not seem to capture any packets.
I need a few helpful and friendly people with Windows XP and a Wireles Network adapter preferably to download this program and see if it works for them!
It's really frustrating me, I want to view incoming and outgoing packets and yet I cannot.
Many thanks,
Jord

Have you installed Ethereal on a major Internet backbone? If not then the only Internet packets you can sniff are the ones which pass between your computer and the Internet.

I have used Ethereal on Linux in the past but I'll have a go on this Windows PC and see if I can get it working

It works fine as long as you run it as an Administrator and ensure you are capturing packets from the right network interface.
