    Error HRESULT E_FAIL

    I get the following error when I try to open the disigner of one of my forms.
    Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.
    at System.ComponentModel.Design.DesignSurface.get_View()
    at Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Design.WindowPaneProviderService.CreateWindowPane(DesignSurface surface)
    at Microsoft.VisualStudio.Design.Serialization.CodeDom.DeferrableWindowPaneProviderService.CreateWindow Pane(DesignSurface surface)
    at Microsoft.VisualStudio.Design.VSDesignSurface.Microsoft.VisualStudio.Designer.Interfaces.IVSMDDesign er.get_View()
    How can I go about fixing this?

    It should give you the option to debug. If so choose a new instance of the IDE and it will highlight the offending line.
    Then you can open the offinding file using notepad to make the edits and save the changes. The re-open
    the project and trty opening the designer.

    I don't think I quite understand what you're saying. I tried to debug and it worked just fine as if there was no error at all...

    Have you tried rebuilding your solution? or closing and re-opening your solution?

    If you have an error it should show what line/class the error is on.

    Hmm... I fixed it. All I did was close the current instance of the designer and opened a new one... Didn't even have to close vs! Sorry to bother you with this, thanks for your help though!

    Its no problem. With VS.NET you sometimes need to close the designer and reopen it in order for it to
    update changes to the designer. So if you did have a bug you probably already fixed it but the designer
    didnt get the update. I think this is a pain and hopefully in 2005 its fixed.
