ASPNET_WP.EXE and Firewall
Hey all,
I'm using Mcafee Personal Firewall on the computer running the ASP.net application.
The application uses a DSN connection to connect to another server to retrieve data from a database.
My problem comes when the application is launched, Mcafee always asks if aspnet_wp.exe should be granted outbound access. I have added it to the list of 'approved' applications, but it doesn't seem to matter.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
JB

This sounds like a Mcafee specific issue, not an asp.net issue. You may have better luck asking in a forum for that product... But just out of curiousity, does your personal firewall register all the other programs you explicitly grand outbound access?

Thanks RA,
Yes, it does. I'll see what I can find in the way of forums for it and go from there. I figured that this may not be an isolated issue, but I'll go that route instead.
I appreciate it.

Re: ASPNET_WP.EXE and Firewall
Hey I have exactly the same prob too, and McAfee don't seem to have any info whatsoever on it, which is nice... although I agree, I think it is probably a McAfee problem. It comes up with the Path: \\?\c:\windows\microsoft.net.....\v1.1.4322\aspnet_wp.exe (the '?' is sic) which would point to it not picking up the server hostname - when you add the Application to McAfee it is just by filename so maybe it never gets matched.
Can't find any info, so if you managed to find a fix (it is a real pain!) then post it here for everyone else because this site came first in a google search!

Re: ASPNET_WP.EXE and Firewall
Howdy and Welcome!
I have not found anything yet. Mcafee does know about it, however.
Bookmark this thread at their help forum as I have been keeping tabs on it and hopefully they will come up with a resolution soon.

Hope that helps or leads to some help.

Thanks for replying - I didn't know about the forum but great, its all there - half a year that thread and still not resolved!
If anyone else is reading this, (ie. has this infuriating and somewhat basic problem), please post to the link above!!!
