    Question MSN exploit

Hey, a friend of mine has written a program that uses and msn exploit. his is able to controle everything on the victims pc, and the only thing that person has to do is logon to msn.

I don't know witch exploit he uses, but I don't like it when he deletes files, look throw my webcam or has fun with my dvd drive.

So I was wondering if any of you heard about that exploit and if there is a patch or something ....

    Thx

First off a friend like that isnt a friend, hackers cause so many problems no matter if they are a joke or not.

But then I can't talk to him anymore using msn.

I want to disable his program, or at least know how it works so I can hopefully do something about it.

Install the latext version, v7.0.0777 of MSN Messenger and see if it still works. The latest version has had it's code analysed for security, a bit like XPSP2 for Windows XP.
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)

It sounds rubbish to be honest.

Theres no way he can control your webcam and stuf just via You logging into msn. (Or i doubt it)

He must have installed a file on your system

This ain't no joke man. I'm sure as hell there is no file. He explaint it to me that he uses an not well know exploit in msn. It also work only when I'm online. And if it was a trojen or a file he could hack me anytime I am connected to the internet. But that is not the case.

    Re: MSN exploit

He could be trying to throw you off the trail by saying its not a file.
It could be that only when your connected to MSN he is able to send commands to his file to carryout his "pranks".

Tell him that either he takes it off of your system of you will report it to MSN or something like that. Just to get him to
coorporate with removing it before he gets in trouble. But if he doesnt concide then do it!

Personally, hes no friend or not of any quality to keep around for any reason.

    Re: MSN exploit

If it's really an exploit then you might as well report it to MSN. Then we can all go happy and download their next security patch.

No offense, but are you a computer literate person? I'm just wondering. Because it is easy enough for some illiterate people to not notice when they are sent a request for files. Also have you ever let him on your computer using the Ask for Remote Assistance feature?

PM me any details you have and I can forward it directly to the developers if you truely believe that hes using an exploit....

Seriously though, its a program on your computer. MSN can't directly delete files, so he has to have a program running that does it for him on your computer. In which case, hes sent it to you without realising.

As someone has already said, start using Trillian just for a little while and see if it still happens. If it does, hes definitely installed a program, as Trillian more than likely won't be vulnerable. If you've seen how the MSN protocol works, you'll know that you can't directly control a users computer easily.

And the security in MSN 7 isn't really any different than previous versions, so don't go thinking your super safe or something Ideas Man.

Just run a good virus scan and check you have the most upto date definitions. He could be using msn to get your IP address so that he can connect to another application

Don't virus scanners usually check against a known list of programs, not a program thats acting in a virus like behaviour? Chances are that Anti-virus companies haven't seen this trojan program yet.

    Re: MSN exploit

It could possibly be picked up by an Antivirus program, because it's acting like a program such as Sub7. There are a few things you could do:

    1) Sign in on another computer and tell him to try it.
    2) Format
    3) Social Engineer him to learn about it, and tell Pc_Madness. You wil not only be doing yourself a favour, but alot of other people aswell.

    Re: MSN exploit

These days you can get antiviruses that detect virus and worm like behaviour. The one I use is Panda with Trueprevent. Download the 30 day trial of internet security 05 with trueprevent and see if it blocks it

It could also be a known one hiding. Like I say they could be using msn only to get the IP address and using another worm/virus to connect and manipulate

this is a very serious matter though. He is breaking the law in millions of different ways, like privacy/hacking/trojan or malicious software use.

just report to microsoft like was said earlier.

You can't report something to microsoft if its not their problem. Chances are its not related to Microsoft or its software at all, in which case they'll tell you where to go. You need to speak to the users ISP.

Ok Then Try Different Things.. Try And Go To Taskmanager > processes and try to find any wierd process running . I think its a program that runs in the system and works through msn port. am guessing that the program starts at start up so go to Start>run type "msconfig" and the go to start up try to find anywierd files ...
