Server, Router, Home Network, Unix
Alright I em unfamiliar with networking. I know quite a bit but not enough to do what I wish attemp.
I am looking for any websites, tutorial, articles or even a great explanation on how to achieve the following:
A computer acting as a server with either unix or linux installed, 2 network cards, one recieves from modem the other pass' the traffic to the router which then pass' to each computer.
I have everything I need I just em not sure how to do this.
Any help?

Your Linux box would be the router, as it is routing packets from the Internet to the local area network. I recommend you download SmoothWall, it is a distribution of Linux which allows you to turn the PC in to a Firewall/Router.

Floppy Firewall is a linux distro that boots to a single floppy disk and does not require a hard disk. The requirements are a 486 CPU and 16MB of ram. It lets you take 2 network cards, and act like a NAT-router-firewall. It also supports 1 Network card and 1 Modem, but I've personally never used it that way. I've had it running for 4-5 years and never had a problem. I only recently replaced it with a VPN machine.

A few other questions arise:
Will I need the driver files for both network cards on a floppy?
About smoothwall:
Is it easy to have it allow port access? Does it configure like a router for example?
Games like Battlefield 1942, Worlds of Warcraft, etc, will still be able to play?
How does the new IP address' work? Will the server have the ip? then what ip will the router get?
All connected comps to the router will always be 192.168._._
How about speed??
I got a P2 266mhz, 32mb ram, will it pull the weight?

Floppy Firewall is compiled with a few NIC types, NE2000 being the main one. There's a few more. If yours isn't in there by default, you can link it in easily, although I've never done it.

FFW is totally free. Also the open-source codesters are constantly making changes and keeping up with the latest kernels, as well as supporting historical versions. Also, they have a free forum whiich they themselves frequent and answer questions. Pretty good support for free
