Midi Playback
When I play a midi file (like from WMP of Winamp) each instrument has a certain sound, but with other programs (like IE) the music is the same, but each instrument has a different sound quality. What are these differences, why are these differences, and how can I play them both ways using VB?

Re: Midi Playback
I haven't played around with this yet, but it seems possible using DirectX's DirectMusic, which is what Winamp uses. You should be able to select different instruments for each track in that. If not, then I'm not sure.

Re: Midi Playback
There is a MIDI map, which some programs use. My Hammond Module has 360 or so different MIDI voices, so when I play using it, I load the definitions that I have loaded, and the voices sound using the correct instrument voice.
Here is something that will get you started. I was surprised to learn that M$ removed the MIDI Mapper from Control Panel. I have it available with my MIDI software, so I looked on the web for answers, and found this.

Which will let you download a program that lets you choose which sounds map to different MIDI devices.
