Re: internet dns
I am no expert on this. But I think you have to use Windows buildt in IIS (or was it ISS) or download apache to make websites work. You can always use IIS (or was it ISS) to run an FTP server though.

Re: internet dns
You have to replicate with servers on the Internet. They have there own schedule to auto-replicate. It's best to just use the one your ISP gave you.

Re: internet dns
I guess you can set up a free A-Record on a the net. But that won't solve your problem totaly since it doesn't sounds like you have solved your problem with your dynamic IP.

Re: internet dns
how can i make an internet dns server on windows server 2003 enterprise.
i have a dynamic ip which might be a problem. what i am after is being able to become a domain registration site. i would like to be able to register domains and point them to my website. i know how to do this for my local network clients because they are connected into my dns by default but i would like to be able to set up my server so that i can register some site that has not been registered yet and point it to my website.can i do this without paying anything?

Re: internet dns
I don't think you can, as every DNS server has to have the new domain addresses. they would just have your address (and name). I don't think it is that easy. What are you trying to do?

Re: internet dns
You will have to pay a company to register the domain for you.
The only advantage having your own dns server would be is that you could update child domain's on the fly (if your registar supports it).
check out http://www.dynDNS.org (you could setup a dandono.is-a-geek.org or w/e domains they offer with a dynamic IP)
IIS or Internet Information Services is what you need to install and configure to serve websites off your W2K3 server.

Re: internet dns
i allready had an account with dyndns (dandono.ath.cx) and they blocked my account. they sent me an email saying that it had copyrighted material on my site so i now got to take everything that i think is copyrighted off of my website.

Re: internet dns
What did you put on there?
Use a server side technology like ASP/PHP/ASP.Net to protect the content from their eyes

Re: internet dns
No... IIS does not support PHP w/ out a ISAPI extension ...
If just you are accessing it... you could just use integrated windows security.

Re: internet dns
Go into Server Management. Add the DNS Server role to your server.
Register a domain name online. Tell you registrar that you are to be the nameserver for the domain.
Then configure your own domain from inside DNS
