Complete Newbie
Hi,
Seems I will have to leave my beloved vb behind and learn about php and mysql, both completely new to me.
From what I know, php is similiar (at least in functionality) to ASP, and mysql is a free database system?
Will anyone be so kind to give me some direction? Sites or tutorials dedicated for complete newbies?
Kind Regards!
Stranger

PHP is a server-side scripting language. Good tutorials can be found here: http://www.w3schools.com/php/default.asp
After you get a good start with PHP, the manual is always a useful tool: http://www.php.net/
MySQL is database software that integrates beautifully with PHP, and is free, like PHP.

Hi Hobo,
Thanx! Just what i needed.
Should have done some more searching myself, but this bloody connection! Or maybe it's got to do with the fact I'm in China now, cuz every second links gives an error!
Cheers!
ps. I also know nothing about Java so would like to know what would someone's motivation be to go from php/mysql to Java?

My motivation for going to Java was that the university I transfered to teaches all their classes in Java, rather than my previous college, which taught in C++.
It's probably also generally true that the more languages you know, and the more fluent you are in them, increases your employability.
