IM Keeps Resetting My Status
I keep setting my IM status to Away but after a while it gets reset to OnLine. Anyone know why that happens and how to prevent it?

Re: IM Keeps Resetting My Status
Are you away from your machine while it happens. It is at least a setting that says how many minutes it should take before it sets it to Away.
If you are sitting on your PC and using both your keyboard and mouse, then it must be a bug.
Are we talking MSN here. If so press:
Tools->Preferences. Then check what it says in the check box where it should say something like:
My Status:
Show me as away when I have been idle for *** min.
Sorry if the translation of the MSN menues are not 100%...

It's just the opposite. I set it to Away and it changes it back to Online.

Are you running Messenger Plus! by any chance?
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)

Re: IM Keeps Resetting My Status
Martin, I set up Windows Messenger 4.7 and set my status to away. While using the keyboard and
mouse for over an hour it didnt get set back to OnLine. Were you being active or did your system go
into standby or hibernate or ???

No standby or hibernate, but the good(?) news is that it's not happening any more. Maybe it's some program that I use that affects it.

Guess you just need to keep an eye on it to see if its a particular program that interferes
with it. How about some kind of irritating virus?

Re: IM Keeps Resetting My Status
I don't think it's a virus. I'm very well protected.

Re: IM Keeps Resetting My Status
If you are running a full screen app, like a game or windows media player and you press Alt+F4, that can change your status. Except that, I am not aware of any apps that manage to change it.
But if it doesn't happen anymore, there is no problem. But if it happens again, and you get irritated, downloading MSN messenger might help.
