    [Resolved] Internet Connection Sharing (Dial-up)

I'm trying to share the internet connection on the computer. I've checked all the checkboxes in the tab in the properties of the connection and I set the gateway on the second one to the IP of the first (with the modem). I can even dial from the 2nd one and see the status, yet no pages open. Is there anything I'm forgetting to do?

    Thanks

Maybe change the DNS on the client machine to explicitly point to the hosting machine's IP address...

I did this a LONG time ago using an ethernet(Cat 5 or whatever it's called) cable hooked up to the "main" computer. But I don't think this is what your wanting is it?

Just create an install disk to be run on the client machines. I've done it a long time ago, when there was no client disk available. You have to use 192.168.0.1 on the host, and it uses DHCP for the clients. The gateway is 192.168.0.1 also.
The other thing to check is the firewall of both machines.

    EDITED: Type. Thanks.

192.168.1.1? I think you mean 192.168.0.1. Try turning on autoconfig for IP addresses on the client machines and ensure that the ICS computer is on before the rest boot up. When they are all running, run the command prompt and type in ipconfig /all and check and ensure that the DHCP server, DNS server, Default Gateway and maybe another thing is pointing to 192.168.0.1.

After you have that set, make sure no proxies have been setup in your browser as these will affect it (because it's a LAN connection).

If you got SP2, ensure that it isn't affecting the LAN connection by disabling it temporarily too, or any other firewalls that may be in its path.

No, I'm pretty sure it only has to be on.

I think XP requires a log on.

To create the connection, yes it has to be logged on, but not to hand out the IP addresses. If you use that tweak to allow the connection to say active when you log off, it also shouldnt' be a problem.

It's not a waste of time, especially when you post the solution, that allows others to learn from similar problems they may have. (I had this trouble when I had ZoneAlarm installed also, gave up and uninstalled ZoneAlarm because I could not get it to allow it through, but that was like 3 years ago).

Well the option is in the Firewall tab, the Blocked Zone Security frame (Advanced button), Internet Connection Sharing frame and make the settings there for your case
