Out with ball mouses in with more optical mouses.

What is the point of buying a ball mouse when you could get an optical mouse for around the same price.

    BALL MOUSES ARE SO ANOOYING

were as optical mouses are easy and look better.

Personally I would go with the optical, the only problem I have with them is that if I am sitting at a table with a shiny surface the mouse becomes difficult to use. But nonetheless, I would still pick optical over ball mouse any day.

    is that your thesis?

it's more like a duh the reason you still see them around is because it's older technology. When a new technology (optical) comes out it takes some time before it replaces the old one. And for your information, a couple of months ago laser-based mouses were created by logitec and they're extremely accurate (much more than optical).... maybe they'll take over the optical mouses in the future

Would they be good for use with a laptop running on battery power?

I think they'd drain more power, so that's bad for me.

The rollers inside the mouse (ball) get dirty which makes them harder to use.

But only roller ball mouses work on glass tables - had that nightmare in a conference room - no mouse pads around - had to use a couple of pieces of paper!

I guess I was vague there - my optical mouse did not work on the glass table - the roller ball mouse does work on the glass table.

Another nightmare - trying to avoid looking at the light - retinal detachment

I have a wooden desk here I am sitting now. My MS optical mouse works much worse on it then my Logitech mouse. Even if I use a mouse pad, or paper under it. The ball mouse ROCK on this woody stuff. I will never change back to optical. It was even wire less. And I hate when I am out of batteries on a Sunday...:grrr:

The "spell-challenged" nature of that made it so much more funnier

Yeah - but I'm always suspicious that you are doing it on purpose - we need to ask Marty if he can get Brad to add spell-check for you

Not like I know how to spell - math is my strong point (I hope!)

You know what works good for the conference tables...One of those cardboard backings that comes on a pad of paper. It fits perfectly in a laptop bag and the optical mouse works great on it.

I tried that too. But my MS mouse still didn't work as well as my Logitech ball mouse. And this one has 5 muttons and two scrool wheels too. And now I can't live without it..

Forget ball-vs-optical - I hate when the wheel don't work on someones mouse.

It doesn't work in terminal services if some driver isn't installed right.

It doesn't work in the VB IDE on two of my programmers desks - I can't siit their - drives me nuts.

The wheel is more important than anything else!

True. I can't understand how I managed to live without it before I got my first one.

But response time in games is pretty importent too. Not that I play that much anymore though.

Yeah, I installed XP the other day. But the first thing I did was to get rid of all the circus theme. And all the other whistles and bells...
