    is it unfair for microsoft?

microsoft has been charged so many times with unfair competition practices. ok, they have been integrating softwares in their OS and that made others to sue them for unfair competition. for me its really unfair since that would kill other software companies. they have integrated softwares like internet browser, movie maker, cd writer etc. and that would be detrimental to the survival of those companies making those products.

then came those open-source softwares. they are distributed free of charge and the most popular is the Linux and this has been competing with Windows OS in the market. isn't this open-source particularly the Linux, UNFAIR to microsoft? we have been condemning microsoft but aren't they also a victim of unfair business practices?

(note: this idea doesn't involve any legal matters, i'm not an expert on that either. )

Open Source is like communism: it works really well so long as someone else is doing all the hard work.

Who would you sue for Linux? By it's nature it has no single creator.

As for unfair, Microsoft has been very naughty but is not having to pay much for it (not as a percentage of their earnings anyway). Linux being unfair to Microsoft, not really. After all Microsoft has the monopoly on most software (such as games) so that they will only run on an MS OS.

Besides, if they produced good software then they wouldn't have to worry about such things as Linux (which Microsoft use for 90% of their own servers such as msn.com) and FireFox (which is quickly stealing users from IE)

They used to. Probably changed it once XP was released. Most of their servers, at the time, were UNIX based.
Can't blame them though, you always use the best you can get right?

What on earth are you babbling on about?
Given that the entire Microsoft site is either ASP or ASP.NET based - they could have only run it on an IIS Server.

Freeware can almost never be as good as a payed for package. Apart from the fact Windows has improved since Linux was released so it does have its advantages

Freeware never provides support unlike people who sell their products, This is why many companies use sold packages in preferance to freeware

Microsoft has used Microsoft Web Servers Since Microsoft made their own web servers. They have never used linux for enything else except benchmark testing.

    diet MS?

I guess that means it will have 2.5 gig of unwanted calories and leave you feeling bloated after an hour

Mabe Ford should start producing cars that you sit in upside down because every other auto company makes you sit upright. Microsoft has to compete with Java, google, PS2 and Charmin Toilet Paper. Should they just give up and close their doors? Microsoft is no different than any other mega company. Your oven, microwave, telivision, lawnmower, car tires, office supplies, favorite beer and morning cereal brand are all probably from the same people. Only that monopoly has the common sense to change the brand name and set up pseudo companies to hide that from you. Check back in a few. I have too look for a good link I saw on the subject. pretty cool stuff.

I just bought the new ms car, it comes fully equipped with a steering wheel, seats, and cup holders! Its slick multi colored red, green, blue, and yellow body colors are sure to hook everyone's attention as their mouths drop with exstacy. By proving to ms that I did not manufacture a replica of the ms car, I get access to Genuine MSCAR Advantage Offers. Ms car now comes already equipped with the new service job II, fixing many issues such as locks that open to any car key. One of my favorite features of the ms car is when you crash into something such as a tree, the windshield turns bright blue with brilliance. I really love my ms car, it always provides me with a different experience of challenges as i drive to work in it every morning, never a dull day in sight!
