    Question Binomial expansion

    Can anyone help me answers this question:

    a) use the binominal theorem to expand (3 + 10x) to the power of 4 giving each coefficient as an integer.
    b) Use your expansion, with an approprite value for x, to find the exact value of (1003) to the power 4. state the value of x which you have used.

    Plz HELP
    Thnx.

    Re: Binomial expansion

    (3 + 10x)^4 = 81 + 1080x + 5400x^2 + 12000x^3 + 10000x^4

    1003 = 3 + 10x, then x = (1003-3)/10 = 100.

    substitute into ur expression

    81 + 1080*100 + 5400*10000 + 12000*1000000 + 10000*100000000
    81 + 108000 + 54000000 + 12000000000 + 1000000000000

    add this together and you get 1012054108081. calculate that 4th root and, look, you get 1003

    if you are unsure about this then ask your lecturer for more help.

    http://www.richland.edu/james/lectur.../binomial.html i found a good reference for you.
